what is a trailer?

Featured Replies

I see it on the forum all the time, I even see it increses hook ups... But I have NO idea what it is. HELP

A trailer is like a craw hooked onto a jig, or a double twister tail grub on a spinner. A trailer hook is a 2nd... well trailing hook that helps if the fish are hitting short.

I know my karma will get me for this, but...something you pull behind your vehicle ;)...Just had to say it before some other butt wipe. Pretty much any soft plastic could be used with a jig or T-rigged as a trailer. Usually with spinnerbaits the smaller more slender worms or grubs are used...

Are they used primarily with jigs? How much line is beteen them? Does anyone have an illustration of this method? I'm intrigued.

The one i believe your thinkin of is a trailer hook when u said it helps with hook ups.. here i a spinnerbait with a trailer hook...

Yeah exactly what Bri depicted. There is no line, its a trailer hook attached to the main hook and flows behind (trials) in farther back in the skirt.

There is also a split shot method, where you pretty much have one deeper bait (I use a t-rig worm) and a second rig attached a bit higher(I like it between 18-30" depending on water depth). This allows you to cover 2 depths.

nice post with pics i almost was going to take a pic of my jigs. i no i got the the two tail grub for my spinners just never gave it a shot yet. but quick question bout trailer hooks does the rubber hook stopper that you get when by the pacs does that affect setting the hooks if using it to keep you trailer hook on the assisting hook??

for real?? is there any where i can see how this is rigged?? i would love to try it

err sorry its not split shot I always get the two mixed up its called tandem.  I will try to find an examble.  Basically it works like a drop with a weighted worm working the bottom as long as its heavy enough to be used as the weight.  You can also tie leader straight to a hook with a lighter weight on it that will flow a little higher and behind.

If not mistaken :-/what KK is talking about would be dropshot rig with jig and trailer or weighted worm at bottom of rig...

yep that's pretty much the jist of it.
