Featured Replies

Hi everyone im a new member, ive been lurking a while and trying to learn as much as possible, i just got out of the Marine Corps and havent had a chance to fish the pits since i was a little kid. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction or maybe few hot spots :) Thanks in advance,

I'm actually headed down there Sunday-Tuesday. Seems to me like the further southwest you get, the better the fishing and the bigger the fish.

It was really tough for us. We caught plenty of fish but not the size we were looking for. My biggest was probably 4 pounds, didn't even take a picture because I was hoping to catch something bigger. I did take a picture of a good looking topwater fish.

That one was just over 18 inches. My friend and my brother-in-law both got a couple nice spinnerbait fish. My friend on the right had the big fish of the trip with his 4 1/2 pounder.

I missed a fish on a 6" Huddleston Deluxe that I sure would have liked to see. My friend jumped off a big fish on a jig that was probably 6.

The strip pits are about your best option, as far as I know they allow camping at all of the pits. Bourban State Lake and both Bourban County lakes have pretty good fishing and I believe camping is allowed at all of them also. Bone Creek Lake is another good option. Go to Wal Mart and get a F.I.S.H. atlas to help you out or go to Kansas Department of Wildlifes website and click Where to fish in Kansas and Region 5 for your area.
