Dobyns Savvy Or Duckett

Featured Replies

Which Duckett? Which Dobyns? Most models...Dobyns, but I do like one casting model Duckett Micro Magic for close-quarters and overhanging limbs to throw light cranks and topwaters with. I could have sworn it was a 6'6" Medium Light (not available anymore ???) maybe a little shorter but I can't find it on their web-site. I'll post the model number later when my fishing buddy calls me back. He owns it.

I have much nicer and lighter rigs but that Duckett rod paired up with a Revo works very well. It was just the right action, balance, and feel for those baits. If it were mine it would be a dedicated small topwater popper and small shallow-running crank for hard cover only. Basically, a two purpose rod only. The Micro guides make it much lighter than it would normally be. If not for them, it wouldn't even be in the ball-park as a Dobyns Savvy Series.

PS: I'm in no way biased because I don't own either anymore and don't have them on my wish-list either. No offense and they are both nice, they just aren't for me.

I'd probably go with the savvy. Been using Loomis and St.croix rods for a long time. But been getting into some of the newer rods and have been pleased. Naming Falcon Bucoo, and the Garcia rods.

Why? I've just heard so many good things about them, and the brand in general. Eager to try one.

I am comparing the Duckett DFMM73MHC and the Dobyns SS733C. I already own a

DFMM73MHC. This will be a general use rod. The Dobyns is the same price and I read some good things. Just want to know how it compares to the Duckett.

I own a Savvy 734c. If I could only take one rod with me to my next life, it would be the SS734c, Champion 734c, or DX744c. They are awesome rods.

I would highly recommend the Savvy.

I dont own a Duckett, but I LOVE my Savvy 734!

I have never tried a Dobyns rod but would like to. I do own a 7' mh duckett rod and love it. One of the main reasons I don't have an opinion on the Dobyns rods is that nobody stocks them. I don't buy rods whithout being able to handle one just like it to see if I like the feel of it, preferrably with the reel I plan on using with it attached. I just can't order something based solely on other peoples opinion.
