Swimbait question.

Featured Replies

What swimbait do you guys think I should get next?  A nine inch black Slammer, a Born Again, or an eight inch Hudd?  The Born Again seems a little heavy and sort of pricey.  Right now I am leaning towards the nine inch Slammer.  I'm really getting into swimbaits even though the heaviest baits I have been throwing are only 2.4 ounces.

As much as I dig Matt's stuff, that was not what he asked about.

The Born Again is an amazing bait. If its in your price range, get it. If its to spendy, get the Slammer.

Well to answer the original question.....

I vote for the Born Again... it really is in a class of it's own.  It's not JUST a wake bait, but you can crank it down a few feet, twitch it, wake it, etc.  You will not be disappointed.  Yes it is expensive, but IMO it is worth every penny.

But something to think about (because you mentioned you only have thrown baits up to 2.4oz), you will probably need a heavier rod.  I originally threw it on a Loomis 956.  While it could throw it alright, the rod was pretty underpowered.  So I bought a Okuma 7'11" XH.  This is a GREAT rod for the BA. As well as hudds, Magnum trout, etc.  Just something to think about.

Good luck with your pick!!

Thanks for the plug Dink!

as for those 3 baits, they are all good and I dont think you could go wrong. Hudds are cheap now so if money is a big part of your desicion maybe get the slammer and a Hudd. If you get a Hudd I recomend the 8 over the 6. 3:16 are beuatiful baits so you cant go wrong there.

Kinda tough question when they are all good baits and they are different from each other. Ususly these types of questions are easy.

Its pick the best out of a few similar baits.

I have already used Mattlures baits, and the Ultimate Bluegill is one of my favorite swimbaits. I will most likely be purchasing one of the Okuma rods because I want to throw the 8 inch Hudds, and it will allow me to throw the Slammer and maybe Born Again more effectively.
