VMC worm hooks

Featured Replies

I bought some VMC 4/0 offset shank worm hooks at academy the other day. I've heard nothing but good from all ya'll here about them, so naturally I had to try them. When I got home, and dumped them in my tackle box I noticed that each of the eyes are slightly open. This is something I expected out of cheap hooks. I've tried several knots, and once they slide to the bottom of the eye, -poof- it comes off. The only thing I can do is use snap swivels. Did I just get a bad batch? Is there any way to remedy this? If not this is my last batch of VMC's.  >:P >:) >:)

-smash them shut with pliers or a vise.

-solder them shut.

-take heavy guage line and tie a palomar knot onto the hook and then slide it down to the gap and cut the line, leaving the knot on there.

try those and see how they work.

The only kind of Vmc worm hooks I have used are the Fritts triple barb wide gap.Never had that kind of issue with them.

I use small diameter braid mostly(10-15 lb) and I have had trouble with any hook. The braid will pop right out. To remedy the situation honestly I tie two knots. Tie once then cut off tag and lead line, slide knot over and tie again. In other words if I cut one off I just leave the knot on there. You can also take a piece of mono and tie it on there to plug the gap. Using a palomar knot can help as well. I am sure the anal retentives are cringing at the thought of leaving a knot on right about now ;D

I don't like to use real heavy gauge because that gnarly little knot will rip the hell out of plastics.

yeah, use the lightest line you can get away with if you're gonna go the knot route.

personally i would just smash them shut, quick and easy lol.

but if you want a permanent, no-fail fix, solder them.

Solder them?  You have to be kidding me!  Just get some Owners, and fish them right out of the package.
