Lake O

Featured Replies

fished the lake on sunday from sun up til 4. the lake is still low and it was brutal hot. put in at slims and worked pelican and some offshore depth changes. caught fish in both areas on giggy and drop shot. went to the west wall and didn't even move a fish. i believe they are called may flies, but they were everywhere and they covered us and the boat. went north to cochrans and caught a couple on spooks and senkos. i have a tourny on sunday, so i will give more detail next week. we need a lot of rain to get the lake back to normal. still love the place though.

We have a T out of Belle Glade on Sunday too. Small 6-9 boats. I plan to go up Saturday and pre-fish a bit. Most of my recent Lake experience has been out of Clewiston so I'm probably run over there. Surprised to hear about West Wall as I've heard there some good ones roaming over there but it's spotty.

I'm heading to Clewiston in about 15 minutes.

Ill check back later today.

I'll be at Clewiston ramp Saturday morning with my young son (6 years old today)

I went to the lake a week ago Saturday (9/3) with him and we had a pretty good day...five biggest about 17lbs. We "cheated" a little bit, though. My son has had trouble hooking up lately (top water/finesse bite) so I bought 3 dozen shiners. He went through the 3dozen easily, catching a bunch of bass and five nice sized catfish. My son broke his PB three times that day and broke off a really nice fish right by the boat (at least 6lbs). I caught a 5lber throwing a skinny dipper while anchored.

I told you guys he was a fishing freak...the only thing he wanted for his birthday was to go to "oppachobee". He was able to work an extra trip in last week for my birthday.

I'll probably put in at Clewiston Saturday since I'm likely to fish over there Sunday. I'll look for you now that I know your boat. That's a neat story about your son. From that day at Lox a few weeks ago, I remember the loud yell from him when he caught a good one.

Sure thing. If you see me, say hi...you're in the green/bone Triton, right? I've got the white Hewes with the poling platform removed. You might get out before me. I'm not going to leave home super early. I was on fish all day, last time.

Yep, green/bone with a little sparkle silver Triton. I'll probably get up there 7 or so.

Does this bass make my face look fat?

Got into a really strong school of quality fish all in the 4-5 lb rang had two 7+ shake off at the boat and broke off on one the I didn't get a look at but was pulling me to More Haven, didn't have my drag set.

Landed a 6, safe to say it was the winning sack today if I was fishing a tournament. 25ish to 28lb sack.

Biggest school of large fish Iv encountered, it was insane.

I only snapped this photo because it was fast and furious, I didn't want to stop, its probably the smallest fish of the bunch.

I cant add the photo I don't know what Im doing wrong, I re sized the picture and it said the download was successful.

Oh well ill explain it, its my ugly azz holding about a 4lber.

I got into a school like that two weeks ago at Okeechobee. A massive school of big fish...4lbs and up. I was anchored (my son was bobber fishing) watching this school roam around me busting baits. I watched this wake just roaming around me and every once in awhile a big section of water would explode as the group would feed (presumably on shad) at virtually the same time. When they would get close enough, I would launch a bait toward them, but most of the time they were upwind of me and out of casting range. I did pull one 5lber out of the school. It was quite strange...almost like saltwater fishing with this big school of large fish waking and feeding very aggressively.

I've seen schools of bass busting shad before, but this was different. Maybe because of their large size. When these fish would bust, a 100-200 square foot section of water would just explode. It was actually scaring my kid.

I sure wish I knew how to get out to some of those spot in the main lake without busting up my lower unit. At 10.79 it scares the hell out of me.

Bob

Bob,

It takes years of busting lower units, getting stuck and being out there when its been low to effectively learn it.

Its easier now with the quality GPS maps, but getting out there is half the battle.

There may have got it.

Well I hate following someone but it might come to that just to get out there. But would hate to have someone think I was taking their honey hole. So if you see a guy with a yellow black and white triton that would be me.

Bob

I don't have too much experience with the lake either, but it was helpful for me to get out a couple times earlier this year when the lake was below 10. I made a note of those areas which were iffy and now that the lake is a foot higher I feel fairly confident running around.

I went to the lake this morning with my two kids. We fished from 7:00 - 12:00, going thru all 4doz shiners. They had a mixed bag of bass, catfish, mudfish and pickeral. They caught about 15 bass (with a 30% hook up rate) with a couple near 3lbs. I caught about 10 throwing around a dipper, giggy head/trick worm and fluke. I got one which was about 4.

Heres one of the bigger ones my kids got today.

Future bass addicts!

We got out yesterday about 7:15 or so. Caught some good ones on Big EZs, Chatterbaits and Buzzbaits. Unfortunately, as we were running the Rim Ditch, my motor shut down around Bare Beach. When we got in, we determined, at best it was the compressor pulley and belt and at worse the compressor (ouch!). We'll see. I guess it was lucky to have happen where it did. I was going to run out to the reef.

Must be Mercury! I'll be joining you with Merc problems, thankfully the backup boat is a Yamaha :P

I was thinking the same thing. If its not coils its a compressor especially for the optis.

Sounds like I maybe am lucky-it was the pulley and not the compressor. I replaced the compressor about 4 years ago so I had my $800+ haircut on that one already. And if by coils, you mean the Power Paks, yeah did those also. It's a death by a 1000 cuts LOL

Glad you ony had to replace the pulley and belt. I just replaced all six coil packs in my 250 pro xs. Two were failures & the other four were replaced per service bulletin all under warranty thankfully.

Mercury not only sets the water on fire but also your wallet.....lol
