Louisiana

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,

I might be getting a job in Alexandria, Louisiana in the next week or two, but I wanted to see about the fishing in that area. Everyone tells me if I like to fish or hunt I will like it there. I am up in VA now fishing so, I am sure there is a big difference between the two areas. What are the main bodies of water down there to really focus on? Also, i assume there are a lot of bass clubs down there to join.

Thanks in advance,

Wdy

Louisiana's motto is Sportsman's Paradise, and you will be right in the middle of it. Whether fishing or hunting, there are tons of places to choose from. To mention just a few, Toledo Bend is very near. At over 100,000 acres you could fish it for a lifetime and never hit all the coves. Then there is Caney Lake,.about an hours drive away. At only 5,000 acres, it has produced some of the largest bass ever caught in LA.. I could go on and on, but if you are a sportsman, Louisiana is the place to be. Just a few caveats. Be prepared for the heat and humidity. Most importantly, be prepared for the critters. From the smallest insect to the gators, they all bite.

Well, I am not crazy about heat and humidity, but I am in Virginia so........kind of use to it. Thanks for the opinions! That seems to be what I have been hearing from outdoorsmen.

Take care,

Wdy

I live in Pineville, LA, which is connected to Alexandria. I fish in the Southernboyz bass club. It's a really good club of good guys. Check out the website www.southernboyzbassclub.com My favorite places to fish close is Saline Lake (20 minutes), Red River (2 minutes), Cane River (30 minutes), and Toledo Bend (1 hour and 15 minutes). PM me if ya got any more questions.

I pretty much only fish Toledo but, I better start looking for something else pretty soon if we don't get rain.. Vernon lake is OK. Anyone here fish Caney?

I fished it a few times. That place can be tough because of the lack of grass. Most fish are deep out there, so you need good electronics to find brushpiles to catch the big girls.

Lack of vegetation makes it totally different. Especially the color of the water. Whole different ballgame than Toledo which I plan to keep fishin till I can't launch.
