Pickwick Below The Dam

Featured Replies

fishing was : fair. fished from 10 to 3 with xl minners. they were running 10k when we got there and kicked it up to 20 k at noon. thats why we got there so late (to hit the higher water).started out in below the boils but wind and current just kept spinning the boat towards the rocks. was rather windy. had stripers following our bait up when we reeled in. went to the west bank just below the first power lines and drifted all the way to the second power lines. stayed out of the wind. gar feeding on shad on top near all the deep holes. caught a couple large mouth, a smallie the size of my minnow, white bass, drum ect. saw a guy catch a 5 lb largemouth about 30 yds down stream from us. most people seemed to be having same luck. some but not many. probably lost as many as we caught just from not getting a good hook in them and some broke the line. one nice bass did. but im not sure if it was a largemouth or smallouth. fished with 10 lb nanofil on a carolina rig. (mono leader) and didnt break the whole rig off once the whole day. just the leader a few times. my fishing partner broke his whole rig off at least 10 times today , didnt like the # 6 circle hooks to well. think i might try like some #4 kahle or shiner hooks from gammy or maybe some splitshot hooks. just didnt seem to get the hookup ratio i liked. when we swithced to kahles it got alot better. we werent setting the hook. ( im used to circle hooks, use them for brown trout). has anyone tried either of those hooks for drifting shiners?

Strip your line and throw it away. I have been broken off once in the last

ten years...no excuse in open water on the Tennessee River...Yo-Zuri Hybrid

#6 for spinning tackle, #12 for baitcasters.

Minnows = #4 Gamakatsu Octopus Circle Hooks.

it was 6 lb yo zuri ultra soft :( ,about 8 months old. like you suggested. and your saying you dont get hung up and break off?.. im considering using maybe 8 lb magnathin. same diameter as 6 lb. but im still liking the nanofil. just wondering if line visiblity will matter even though im using leader. might change to flouro leader with the nanofil.
