Swim Bait Rod

Featured Replies

Looking for guidance on a swim bait rod in the $100 - $150 range.

Throwing soft, solid body baits mostly (I think).

Under 3 ounces, probably more like 2 and under.

Thanks for the help.

for $110 you can get an lamiglas excel 735 model that is rated for small swimbaits and frog.

You would probably be ok with a long H action flippin stick. I have been seeing MattLures rods coming up on ebay lately for less than $100. They got a good review from TackleTour, Ive thought about trying one out myself.

This, I bought one for $50 on ebay. I don't have it anymore because I wasn't very successful on swimbaits.

So it did work out pretty well?

Worked great, my lake doesn't have big enough fish in it to use 2oz+ swimbaits.

Glad to hear it worked out well, other than the fish not cooperating.

Theres a link to the rod, they must have a pile of em as you can say what power you want after winning the bid. The last few have gone for well less than $100 after shipping and all.

I'm having trouble finding the specs for the different powers on those rods.

Thanks. Saw this, but I only see the specs for the heavy rod.

The Okuma Guide Select looks like a good deal, anyone want to weigh in on that series?

I believe matt from matt lures has an account here, and hes active over on swimbait nation, I would ask him, or read up there. I see him speaking well of Okumas if I remember correct

The mattlures rods have a very moderate action, which is ideal for treble hook hard baits. The MH rod is rated for 1-4 oz lures, it's perfect for matt's hardgill, 7" slammers, 6" triple trouts, 6" BBZ jrs etc, you get the idea. I find it a bit too noodly for walking Punkers, but I've done that too. The heavy rod is rated for 2-6 oz, and it's a good rod for matt's hard bass.

I have the MH rod, and I'm pretty happy with it. BUT, I'm probably never going to buy another, 'cause I hear Matt never got any royalty from Reaction Strike for designing those rods.

Didn't realize that. Makes ya think twice.
