Abu Garcia Soron Stx Vs Sx

Featured Replies

Anyone know anything about the Abu Garcia Soron SX (Its the dark red looking one). I have the STX and I love it, looking for something similar, just not as expensive. Any thoughts?

I have the Soron STX and love it too. I also have an ALB502 and love this also, still going strong after 6 or 7 years. I don't know much about the SX, but I'm confident it is a quality reel also.

I own 4 soron stx, a 60 2 40's and a 20. I used to be very high on these reels, not so much anymore. Mine are used in saltwater and hold up exceptionally well except they are prone to wind knots( my stradics and tierra have never had a wind knot under same conditions), in addition every once in a while on very windy day I'll get my braided line caught on the spool spindle, something that only happens with their design. Have to take the spool off to clear the line off the spindle, imo you won't have these problems in freshwater. The sx is an updated version of the 700 cardinal series, I had 1 of those also, it was just ok.

I just went onto Abu's site, to my surprise unless I missed it, I do not see the soron stx or sx has one of their products. Orra sx and Orra s at $99 and $69, each having 2 less bearings than the soron line, but the same as the 800 cardinals, personally I'm looking for a new reel company when I'm in the market( most likely stradic, penn connquer or quantum cabo). In all fairness my reels don't get the same kind of mileage as reels used in freshwater, the salt conditions, sand and size and strength of the fish here take it's toll.

As things would have it I purchased my soron stx 60 recond from them for about $68, still working fine. It is hard to beat Pure fishing customer service.

Just wanted to let anyone know who is interested know... That I ended up picking up the Soron SX. So far so good, really smooth overall. Then again, i have only had it for a 2 weeks.
