Do micro guides slow down the bait if its in close quarters? Also are they rated for braid?

I've been using Skeet Reese's Honeycomb Micro Guide "Heavy Cover" rod all this year, and I haven't had a problem with braid yet, although I doubt thats enough time to tell.

Other than that, I was using 65lb for punching, but I don't use that enough so I swapped to 40lb for throwing frogs. It's does mostly casting now, but I will still pitch or skip under overhangs. I'm not sure if its the number of guides or the size, but everything seems smoother.

I kind of want to pick up his "fluke" HC rod that has Micro Guides as well for some other techniques, but I'm thinking of building my own rod instead over the winter.

Micro guides are fine on a flipping rod. That's how my own is built. If anything, the line should shoot more smoothly. Modern guide rings and braided lines are perfectly compatible as well.

I started using the Kistler magnesium jig & toad rod for my flipping. I am using 65lb braid and I have yet to have a problem with the line, I actually like the micro guides better. With the sensitivity in my rod and the line laying on your rod you will feel more bites. I think it is easier to pitch and flip with the micros.
