Pet Native Fish?

Featured Replies

Does anyone else keep any native fish in an aquarium/pond. I have 2 ponds, one thats about 600 gallons and has about 12 Green Sunfish and a smaller 200 gallon pond that has 1 bass in it but I will be hunting for some tank mates for him.

You catch 'em or did you buy them from somewhere? I want to get some dwarf sunfish, but I can't find any around here (to catch anyway) I found some places that sell them, but you have to buy like 50 at a time.

I had a small flathead catfish in a 50 gallon aquarium for a few years and it was the coolest pet fish I've ever owned. Watching how it would stock it's prey and the power that even that small fish had was amazing. I had it from the time it was about 4" long until it was over 2 pounds when I turned it loose back into the lake I caught it from. I had two 8" longnose gar for awhile and they were really fun to watch but man they eat a ton! They got two expensive to keep and got taken back to the pet store.

I caught all of them in nets in local streams and ponds.
