Lake O 11-23

Recommended Posts

fished from sun-up til sundown. put in at clewiston and ran way north. caught a ton of fish with 2 going 5+. we had 18 pounds in the boat by 10am. started working our way down south and continued to crush them on big ez's, dippers, swim jigs and flukes. i have been fishing lake o for about 30 years and i have had days where we were in a school of fish and caught them one after another in the 2-3 pound class. that all changed tonight. at 4 o'clock, my partner and i were catching 3-5 pound schooling fish for a solid hour. we caught well over 40 fish within that hour. we actually left them biting. they were hitting everything we threw--spooks, swim baits, propbaits, spinnerbaits, EVERYTHING! it was incredible! i have heard of guys getting into big schools, but until tonight i have never experienced that kind of fun. i am parched, beat and stoked all at the same time. lake okeechobee is the hottest lake on the planet. go get some.

Timing is everything. When you find them chasing and eating its a blast.

Glad you had fun.

Can't say as I've ever been into anything like that on a lengthy basis but we had a 20 minute or so taste of it a few weeks back. All you can do is be thankful and say "wow"!

Thats an awesome trip Bruce. I went today out of Clewiston with my Dad. We didn't get into them like you did, but we had a nice day. About 40 fish... five best ~17lbs. I lost one about 6 lbs just outside my reach. We got started about an hour after sunrise, and finished up about 2:00. Had pretty steady action once we found them.

Sunup to Sundown? I submit your name for the "Hardcore" angler of the year  . Man, that's an incredible trip. I hope you get a video camera for Xmas so you can share your experience with us.

Bruce,

I was out yesterday duck hunting and wish I brought my pole! I had a very similar experience on the East side a week ago most were 2-4lb footballs. If you want to have fun and slay fish you need to get out there and catch'em!

WOW!!! 3-5 pound schoolies. I am very happy for you man that you had such a good time. I hope one day I get half that lucky. I had one run once where I caught about 5 in ten minutes but they were two pounders.

I hope you get into some of the bigguns soon!

Sorry Bruce don't mean to hijack your thread. But I'am going to Moonshine Bay in the morning. Can't run the outside and not too familiar with the inside trailsout of Clewiston. Was thinking about launching out of MooreHaven istead. Any thoughts on that? Also how do I get to a launch in MooreHaven?

i heard moonshine has to be at 15 feet to get in there. i was in that area tuesday but didn't go in. your boat should probably get in there. i am not sure of a ramp in moore haven. put in at clewiston and take the seven mile ditch and you are right there. good luck shane.

Moonshines dept is OK at 14, problem is how it came back, this lake comes back different every time the water goes down and up again, if it cleared out a little it may be a place to check.

Its been so overgrown but lots of times the low water kills a lot of grass.

I may try to get over that way today, if the old lady ever finishes getting ready so I can drive to the lake and fish.

Remind me again why we like them.

Oh yeah.

There is a ramp just east of the bridge that heads to Moorehaven. Check Google earth, the exit is just before the bridge. The 7 mile ditch is just west of the boat ramp across from the RV park. That 7 mile ditch leads into the monkey box if I am correct. Lots of hydrilla, I slayed a 7.2# there last spring the day before the KOTG Gambler tourney. I think the water was around 12' then. My Ranger just barely got out of there. The water was 3-4' in the ditch and about 2-3' at the monkey box. Your shallow boat will be perfect in there.
