I'm thinking about buying one of these "Rod Runner" fishing rod racks for the back of my wifes car. I have 2 work trucks that I take fishing but when I take my four boys it starts to become a pain getting them all in the car with the poles. The unit is only like 100 bucks so it seems worth it. Anyone here used something like this before or one of these Rod Runners? Are they of good quality?? anything would be helpful.

My concern with this setup is that the road grime will take a serious toll on the reels and to a slightly lesser extent the rods. The only way I'd go this route is with rod socks and reel covers. Alternately, reels could be taken off the rod and put in a tackle bag in the vehicle.

I agree completely. I'm surprised Thule or someone hasn't come up with a good enclosed roof rack/shell. If they have it's a well kept secret.

That looks like an accident waiting to happen. Save your money on this one.There are many more viable options out there.

ive never seen one like that, but i have seen people with trucks that have racks on the front that fit a cooler with PVC pipes around the rack holding fishing rods. not sure i like the idea either way.

buy 2 piece rods for when you take the kids, that way you can just break them down and put them in the trunk when traveling to and from the water...

I like the Thule idea, but NOT the rear bumper set up. That's inviting disaster! One rear-ender can wipe you right out.

Yeah, not so much. There's a company in WI somewhere (can't remember it off the top of my head) that does a 9' long rod box that will hold ten rods. It mounts on a Thule type roof rack and is made of welded aluminum. The box is fabricated in a manner that virtually eliminates wind noise and it's padded inside. It is separated on the inside, essentially two divided compartments. I'll try to find the name. I drew a co-angler one time that had it and he loved the thing.
