Was looking at the new shimano crucials. Look alot like last years cumaras. Just wondering if anyone has tried em. They sure do feel good!!

I picked up one of the drop shot rods and love it. I also have a G Loomis 822S and actually prefer the Crucial at this point. Not sure exactly what it is, but it just feels "right."

Just got mine today, haven't been able to use it, and I don't know when I will since it is cold and getting colder... but it is an awesome rod.

I am looking forward to trying these new rods out this coming year. Nice to hear some good reviews on these rods.

The new Crucial rods are IM-10 like the Cumara.

The new Crucial rods are IM-10 like the Cumara.

Partly true, partly not. They are an IM10, but they utilize a different resin, so they aren't like the Cumara. There is still quite a difference.

They are, however, a very nice rod for the price point. They have a very good hand, and they have a very solid range of lengths and actions. I've been reasonably impressed with them for someone that wants an introductory higher end rod. They, in my opinion, will kick the pants off the GL2 in terms of feel and weight. The Cumara, though, has a distinct advantage in terms of weight and the use of SIC guides versus Alconite on the Crucial.

Not to change the topic, but I have noticed companies promoting their "special" resins, what the heck is it and how does it affect the sensitivity of the rod?

All I said was they are IM-10 like the cumara , you have to be one of the most argumentative persons I have come across in the a while.

I fail to see how anything I said is argumentative. I simply completed the statement you made which alone is not completely true. If you're going to put information out there, make sure it's whole and complete.

Without going into great detail, the resins will affect the weight, the strain rate, hoop strength, density, and compression strength of the finished blank. Resins affect the final product in various ways, from making a rod ultra-durable to ultra-light and sensitive. In some ways they play as much a part of the rod as the actual carbon/graphite.

He is partly right because most people say the two rods have the same blank because they are both IM-10 Graphite. He just said they are both IM-10, I don't think you were trying to start an argument or feel you were coming off rude. But the fact of the matter is nothing he said was "Partly not" true. There is nothing false by saying, "The new Crucial rods are IM-10 like the Cumara." You are right by saying that the Cumara is superior to the Crucial and the blanks are not the same. But if price is an issue is the Cumara worth $50 more? I honestly don't think so.

Picked up 3 today.. 7' 11" swimbait, 7' 2" crankn, and a 7' 6" crankn. Didnt think they would be the same as a cumara because of price. $130 ea. I will put up a review as soon as i get a chance to use em.. Thanks for the help.

Actually, the graphite IS the same, the Crucial just uses a different resin.

I said the graphite was the same and that the blanks are not the same.

It's not really about semantics, though. The resins used pretty much make the graphite what it is. To make the comparison that it's "IM 10 like the Cumara" is quite far from the truth. It may be IM 10, but the blanks are vastly different.

You're right, my mistake. Read it too fast. :D

Well, at least we all agree that it's a nice rod at its price point.

Indeed, they're a fine rod for the price point.
