With all the talk about these, I was just curious, what is the best way to use them? Do you put it on your line and bang the lure free?

Get as near to vertical as you can above your bait. Hold your line tight, just as the retriever hits the bait, slack your rod. Lift, repeat, as needed.

I always take the chains off of mine.

Simple, effective and cheap:

Attach a large paper clip to a 3 oz weight.

Yep, it's the chains that get my lure half the time.  Definitely worth the price.

Well I'm pretty sure me and him are on the same page with this so i'll chime in...

Those chains can and will knick the h#ll out of your line.  Personally I'd rather bang the heck out of the lure for another 5 minutes with no chains than have the slight possibility of knicking the line and breaking it off while trying to bang it free with the chains.  

With that being said I only use the knocker for my swimbaits

Cool Idea, I'm gonna try this.  I've wasted enough money on lure retrievers that don't work!
