7" Senkos

Featured Replies

Guys,

for those that aren't using them yet, I

have been catching most of my fish in

the last month or so on 7" Yamamoto Senkos.

These giant cigar sized baits are deadly right now.

I had to laugh Saturday because I caught a 9" Bass

on a 7" Senko.

Ps: I have been fishing them wacky rigged.

I agree! The big plastics like that the key to getting into some giant LMs. Even rigged TX style they're great.

Standard rigging for me, weightless and weedless.

8-)

I agree. Weightless/Weedless I have been catching a bunch of 5's and a couple of 6's this year.

local stores here like Dicks/Walmart only sell 3,4,5 inch senkoz

I've been doing well with big 7" or bigger ribbon tail worms.

I tried the big senko's without much noticable difference from the 5"

Avid,

In years past I hadn't noticed any major performance difference between the 5" and the 7". This year however is much different. I

don't know if the larger profile is putting out more vibration making

it easier to locate in the dirty water (we have had tons of rain this year and most lakes and rivers are dirty). The only thing I have done

different is to wacky rig it instead of Texas rig it.

I agree. The bite for me has been great with the wacky rigged Senko

I bought mine at BPS not sure if they have any at academy. I don't care what brand stickbait I buy but it's hard to find a 7inch one anywhere

I would try them, but i can guarantee they are too big here in MN

it would be considered a muskie bait  ;D

a 7" Senko is my go-to finesse muskie bait.

For wacky rigging I have been using the 2/0 Gamakatsu weedless wacky hook and the 3/0 Daiichi wacky hook.

I always get hung when i wacky rig stuff.  Is there a way to not get hung as much?

You can try the weedless wacky hooks, but you are still going to get hung up (maybe not as much). I think snags are just the nature of the beast when it come to wacky rigging Senkos.

if you're throwing into heavy cover there's better options than a wacky rig.  if you have alot of snags on the bottom of the water, and want to go wacky, just don't let it hit the bottom.  but of course when you have an exposed hook you're going to be more likely to get hung up.
