Denny Brauer F-700 Flippin Reel

Featured Replies

Was wondering who uses this reel, and what your impressions of it are? I am thinking about getting one (VERY happy with my Shimano reels, but man, do I love to experiment!). So, if you have this reel or have fished with it, let me know your impressions, good and bad please. Thanks.

PS. Was wondering about this SPECIFIC reel, not looking for suggestions regarding other reels please.

All I know is that 3 different times last year I had "poor me" moments and had talked myself into buying a reel to make myself feel better. I looked at that reel 3 different times. Right down the reel case a little bit was a Curado E, for around $140. I talked myself out of the flippin reel and into a Curado E 3 different times. The flippin reel seemed "heavy" compared to a Curado. Given an option, I don't do heavy.

Basically, I just couldn't justify a "one trick pony" and the Curado was more versatile. I think if I had unlimited funds I'd probably get one, but I don't so I won't.

I have one that I use strictly with big jigs around brush and dock cable with 65lb braid at lake of the ozarks. I really like. You'll be surprised how far you can actually cast it as well. One problem when you catch a good one. The braid really digs in on itself. Best flipping and pitching reel I've used.

Good reel for pitching and flipping, one of the best, really. They're a no-nonsense, no frills reel, albeit a bit heavy. The design is a great premise, for sure, and if it could be refined there'd be quite a few more folks owning one.

I can see the advantage on paper, but in actual use I suspect the benefit to be minimal over another reel at that price point. I'm interested to hear more from actual users.

My thoughts exactly. Thanks Mike.

I don't disagree at all, hence my statement that the design is a great premise, it just needs to be refined.

i have it and use it pretty heavily. its amazing, it really is. yea its heavy but its really only a couple ounces heavier than my lews n abu which weigh in at about 8.4 ounces, is a couple ounces really that big a deal? and i would expect it to be heavier, look what its designed for. its never given me any problems, pitching is d**n near effortless, the drag is insane, if that fish is hooked, he or she is definantly comin in the boat. it handles braid and flouro great and is just a tank! yea its a one trick pony but think about it, r u really gonna have a rig spooled up with 20-25lb fluoro or 55-65lb braid that ur gonna wanna keep switchin back and forth between whatever your usin it for and flippin/pitchin? idk, just doesnt seem very time efficient if u ask me. all in all the f700 is great, its really exceeded my initial expectations and i think you shud get one if your gonna be flippin/pitchin a lot, u wont regret spendin the money.
