Dropped My Spool

Featured Replies

Well, I took the spool off my Daiwa Advantage today and dropped it right on the floor where it did a few bounces. It has a few little marks on the bottom, but other than that it looks fine. Is it possible looks are deceiving and something has bent that could cause other problems? Thanks.

Does it rub or bind when put in free spool? If not, it's probably OK.

OK, does rub or bind when retrieving?

If any sharp nicks occurred on the spool lip they can be polished smooth with a dremel and rubbing compound.

Just checked it. No rubbing or binding. Think i'm ok?

Like OE said, as long as the lip where the line pays out is smooth, you should be good. I've done some pretty terrible things to gear, I can't imagine one drop killing it. Better safe than sorry. Good question!

Yeah, at least it wasn't a baitcaster and the bearing just happened to hit. Then I would have to go through the dreaded pin removal process :dazed-7:

That's really unlikely. In order for that bearing to take impact, something else would have to break, exposing the spool, or hit the spol itself. It's more likely you ding either bearing/bush supporting the crank shaft. Or you could just smash the front in, like I did to mine, LOL.

More like Bill Dance. I broke it out of clumsiness, not anger, LMAO.
