I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find some good PC maps just for studying up on different lakes. I've looked at the Hotmaps explorer deal and thats pretty much what I'm looking for it just doesn't have all the right lakes. Anybody have any other sources they use for studying up on lakes before they head out?

I downloaded the NAVIONICS app for my Android phone not too long ago. You can find pretty much any lake on it. It shows depth countours, channel swings etc. You can mark waypoints and it will give you general GPS information like speed and direction of travel. It's a neat little tool for $10 bucks.

I got the Android Navionics app for my tablet. The way the tablets and smart phone screens are, they are difficult to read in bright sunlight.

I downloaded the Navionics app for the IPad and it's pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Is there a way to do it on your PC? That would be great. I was looking to use it for route planning and finding new fishing spots. I also have a question about maps and datums and etc. I currently normally use the Atlantic maps. They show great detail, but if you try to use their LAT LONG for coordinates then it doesn't quite match up with my GPS. This is because they use different datums. I believe the GPS is using the WGS84 datum and the maps are using some 1943 geological survey. Has anyone found any good paper maps that match up with GPS units?

Wayne, does it show any kind of maps of the smaller lakes in VA? Briery,Sandy,Diascund,etc?

Yes, it has Briery Creek, Sandy River with contours, but just shows Diascund as an outline. Lake Anna has the HD survery contours on the cold side and the older contour map for cooling pond 2, but doesn't have any contours on cooling pond 1 and 3.

Yes, there is a PC app. When you download the PC app, you have 5 other downloads with it. One for your desk top, one for lap top, one for phone, ect.
