Lews Speed Spool And Laser Mg

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any experience with these reels? I dont care about the price or this reel vs a Revo or Curado. How does it PERFORM?

I am particularly interested in the Laser MG. Thanks!

I have two Lews Tournament Pro's. I used them exclusively all tournament season last year and they performed flawlessly. I'm ordering a 3rd one tonite.

I don't know a thing about the Laser MG.

For 20 dollars the regular speed spool is way better. The Laser MG is an all graphite reel while the normal speed spool has an aluminum frame. As for performance I don't know about the Laser MG but the speed spool is a great reel at that price. A friend of mine in the bass club has a Lews Tourney Pro and he bought his son a Speed spool, we took it out so he could get it set up for the kid and just kept using it and let me use it, I was amazed it was only 89 dollars at that time and so was my friend, he gave the one he was fishing to his kid and went and bought 3 more, he said the performance was identical to the pro with the biggest difference being the weight. I have to admit that it was a fantastic reel and at that price it is without out a doubt better than any reel close to it in price by mile. I really want a Tourney pro but I've been fighting with myself wondering if I should save the cash and get the speed spool because I already used both and I know that the smoothness of retrieve and casting performance is identical or very close to identical in both reels, and I put a reel really close to the weight of the speed spool on the rod I want a new reel for and it balanced just fine, so I'm torn but if I had to choose between the laser and speed spool it would be a no brainer just because I've had a bad experience with graphite framed reels in the past so I stay away from them.

I have a Lews SS that i use almost exclusively. Its only one of two bc's I've owned, the other being an Okuma Cayenne. However, id prefer the SS 100 times out of a 100. I can throw light baits with it fairly well. What I like most, though, is the ergonomics. My thumb just feels so natural on that spool, its incredible. Easy to palm and I have small fingers.

i have the lew tournament speed spool and recently compared it casting wise to my new curado g200 and stx. The lew's casted great controll wise however was shorter distance wise. Maybe 10-15ft at most and this was after i was playing with the adjustments. however the lews is very light and feels super solid, absoultely no play in the handle which is great. But for $200 bucks there are better reels out there for that price and i would get a curado for $160 over it

Tournament SS's are only $150 at TW, Tournament Pro's, however, are $199.

Several TPs on the Bay now under $170 and most of us have seen them as low as $153 or lower.

They also have a new model? $50 obo reel on the bay. I checked Lew's site and it was not listed so I don't know anything about it.

I disagree. I got my Tourney Pro for $154 on eBay and wouldn't take any new reel over it up until the $250 range. It is lighter and way smoother than Curados. Casts great and is well built.

I like my Core 50 more than my TPs but other than that I love the TPs

I just tuned both up so we'll see how well they work now.
