I'm actually heading out the door to Lake Eufaula and the Fishing report I've been given is Jigs and bottom rigs are catching good fish around the shorelines. I made up 5 of these Rigs with Trokar hooks last week and I'm planning on using them with Sweet Beavers. I'll let ya know how well I did when I get home this afternoon.

I made one a few weeks ago and fished it a few times with great success. Your bait gets some awesome action on the bottom. For a few bucks worth of materials I would say everyone should try it

If you attach the "first" split-ring to the hook, and you TIE to that ring, is there any danger with cutting or weakening the line should it get up against or IN the "open/split" area of the ring?

Not that I've noticed, of course theres always a chance. To get the desired action its necessary to have 1 split ring, or a welded ring hook, line tied above, and weight attached below with another split ring. Nothing should be tied to the hook.

Exactly... and I HAVE had that happen before - where the line/knot gets centered in the split-ring opening. Can't say that I've had the line/know break THERE, but it was always a little unnerving to me... and is why I remove all of the split-rings on my hard/crankbaits and use (just) a snap.

As noted in the post above, using a welded-ring hook would be the best, but then that doesn't address "our" modified rigs. Maybe it's not a big deal? Just rotate the #1 split ring to where the "opening" is towards the hook, and tie onto that ring where it's "solid"...??

Well, the report goes as follows for my trip yesterday.

The weather was terrible, Sunny, Cold and winds about 30 MPH. The water was literally going the opposite direction in the river and it's been a long long time since I've seen the River White Capping the opposite direction. After an hour or so of nothing I decided it was time to try the Jika Rig with a Sweet Beaver attached.

First cast and I caught a Fish. I was astounded at that, but also thought it had to of been luck.

Turns out it must have been luck because I didn't catch another one the rest of the day, lol.

Anyway, I am definitely happy with them and will only use them when I use my Creature baits and Tube Baits.

This concerns me as well. I'm using the lighter wire Gamakatsu 584 EWG hook. I attach a split ring to that and then to the weight. Then I add another split ring to the first and will tie off to that.

I've actually thought about using a small barrel swivel in the same way that the extra split ring is being used in the above pic.

I was thinking of using a quality cross lock snap instead of a split ring. That way you could change baits and weights quickly.

I've got several set-up with a 3-way Spro PowerSwivel. The Spros are the best there is as far as quality goes and with a 3-way (and two split rings), I can tie off on the solid, 3rd. loop of the 3-way. Problem solved! And, you get the added benefit of a little "clicking" sound associated with this set-up. No need for glass rattles in your bait!

Haven't tried it yet. The water temps here are still in the low 40's. But soon!

The Owner Jig Rigs I bought and tank tested have a welded ring to tie to, and a split ring with the weight attached. There's a lot of freedom of movement, and I suspect the two rings are key.

Yes and they work!...caught this one with a jika rigged fluke.. Deadly for bass feeding on schooling bait fish. It gives a nice free flowing vertical movement when worked like a jig,
