So ill start this thing... fishing Friday on 3/2/2012 right before the storms rolled in around 4:30- 6pm. I was in a small marina called Jays Marina off of Hwy 20 in Decatur. The water is in the mid 50s and med to med dark stain. I was throwing a blue/silver LC fat smasher parallel to the bank about 15 ft out in 4-6 ft of water. I caught 4 bass in the time I was there. One at 4lbs and the others 1.5lb or less. All fish came from the depth above. I started out throwing a bluegill colored strikeking flatbill crankbait and worked it from the depth above to the bank and maybe received a bite but caught nothing. The fish immediately responded to the fat smasher. I retrived the fat smasher with pauses, directional changes, jerks and etc. The difference for me was that the fat smasher can act erratically more like a jerkbait. During pauses with the crank it just starts to float up and it just wasnt what they wanted then and there. The water themp is on the rise but is still pretty chilly for the most part and the jointed swimbait got eaten good.
