Pre Spawn / Spawn - Pickwick

Featured Replies

Could someone clarify for me the difference in the Pre Spawn and the Spaw...which is typically better to fish? and When does this usually start at Pickwick.....just curious as I am still a beginner fisherman

Generally in pre-spawn the bigger females will stage off flats in deeper water,

males will be building nests on the flats in shallow water. During the spawn,

the biggest bass in the lake will be shallow. I NEVER target bedding bass, but

for some this is the best time or the only time they can catch bigger fish.

BTW,

The best fishing in history is currently going on at Pickwick. More 10+ bass have

been caught in the last four months than in the last four decades! The lake/river is

on fire!

yes I know its been on fire...Ive already fished it 5 times this year, and fished several times during november and december. Ive slowed down a lot lately as I am a teacher and a highschool baseball coach so I dont get to get up there as much as Id like....We are out for spring break next week hopefully I'll have some time to do a little fishing. Thanks for the info, you are always very helpful Ive learned a lot from different topics on this board! My partner and I would love to make the Annual trip to Guntersville this year but that just happens to be during the first week of Ms highschool baseball playoffs and I sure plan on making the playoffs lol but either way could be a win win situation.

That is a great question! And as always RoadWarrior gives a good answer! I've learned alot about the lake and how to fish and a couple secrets and things I would never have done before. Thanks everyone and especially RoadWarrior for all the advice!
