Jm Sig Vs Pro Qualifier

Featured Replies

Noticed that the Pro Qualifier is on sale for 80 bucks, which happens to be half the price of the JM Signature. Just wondering if anyone has used these both and if so, is the Signature that much better than the pq???

I don't own the Signature series but several pq's. The added cost you will see with the sig series is because it has aluminum side plates ( makes the reel a little more solid), duralum drive gear ( a harder metal that will last longer with less wear than brass of the pq , although the pq's i have are going on 4 years old and i haven't seen any wear yet, as well as being lighter than brass), 10 bearings ( probably not in areas than make a whole bunch of difference like 1 on the worm gear and 2 in the handle knobs), the carbon fiber handle ( purely a weight reduction and some aesthetic appeal), and prolbably the biggest difference is the carbon fiber drag system ( definatly a plus IMO) The area that it lacks is the knobs themselves on the sig series. I have a reel with those on there and they stink IMO.

If i were making the choice i would rather have 2 pq's and upgrade the drag for 10-12 bucks apiece instead of 1 sig series reel.

X 3= The PQ's are very good reels for the $$$$.

Was actually my thought as well. Could use the second reel for sure! Didn't think of the drag upgrade. Thanks for the input all!

Ditto with INB the PQ's are hard to beat

I never considered a PQ until I read all the positive recommendations on this site. I recently fondled one in the Harrisburgh BPS and was quite impressed. I know I was not fishing with it, but it felt right, especially for the money.

They're both good quality. Whether the features are worth the difference in price is up to you same as Curado vs Core or SX vs Premier etc...

Gander MTN. has a BIG sale ( First Cast ) on reels, rods, combos, lures.I still like the PQ alot,I thought I would just give you a heads up!

Just to confuse you more, check out the old yellow carbonlites. My local store still has some. GREAT reels. Similiar performance to the JM and PQ, but much lighter, and it'll cast light baits a touch better.

I had a Johnny morris Signature that I really liked, Honestly the smoothest reel I've ever owned. However it was terribly heavy and it couldnt cast much below 3/8oz. The carbonlite is the better choice if weight matters to you.

I have four PQ's and love them, but had never considered upgrading the drag till now. How would I go about that? Just order parts from BassPro?

PQ is a great reel. Its smooth and feels solid. I got one recently and would def buy more.

I own both. Like them too. Sort of the difference between a GMC and Chevy pick up.
