Question About Preferred Weight Scales

Featured Replies

Good Morning, everyone.

I recently caught a very large bass and immediately went to my digital weight scale to weigh her. It was zeroed out properly but kept giving me different readings. Then, it read that my bass was a little over 6 pounds. My friend and I knew better and he pulled out his non-digital scale and she weighed in at over 8 pounds.

My question here is what do all of you use for your weight scale? I need something trustworthy and reliable.

Thanks everyone!

When it really counts, a good spring scale is best. There's no denying the convenience of a digital, though. I like Chatillon spring scales. Pricey, but very accurate.

I've got a Berkley digital, a 40 year old zebco spring and a Rapala spring I found. I tried them all on a 4.5 pound weight used to check trigger pulls and and 10 pound dumbell, they were all right on the money. I was surprised that the old zebco was accurate, not that you can really read the scale that fine but the needle was half way between 4 and 5 and right on 10. I'd find a couple different known weights and see how they do. I also started weighing fish in the net and subtracting the weight of the net. They move around less in the net.

Get a 15lb boga which weighs in 1/4 lb increments. You can interpolate the weight when its between hash marks. They are pricey but bullet proof & the most recommended by IGFA for yearly certification. If you want the best digital get a brecknell (formerly salter brecknell)
