Hds-7 Installation Tips Wanted

Featured Replies

Gonna be installing gen2 with structurescan in a 94 Ragin Cajun XL soon. Looked over the manual and it doesn't seem too complicated, but I just wanted to ask for tips, and things others encountered while installing theirs. Thanks!

I just did this a few weeks ago. Its pretty simple. Just make sure your transducers are level and less then 1 ft apart as it says in the manual for optimum use.

I find that the biggest source of confusion is powering the LSS. Of course, red (3-amp fuse protected) and black are wired to 12 V power source. The yellow wire must be connected for the LSS to function, and must be through a switched source of power. Easiest way is to connect the LSS yellow to the HDS unit power cable yellow. This way, the HDS unit PWR serves as the switched power for the LSS (i.e., anytime you have the HDS unit on, the LSS is on). Alternatively, you can wire the yellow through an ACC switch to control the LSS power independent of the head unit.

Thanks for the tips! Got the ducers installed, lss mounted, and cables routed today. Had to cut it short due to rain, and will wire up and install display tomorrow. Went ok with the exception of having a screw head break off on the skimmer mount, which I replaced with hex heads, and followed suit on the structurescan ducer.
