Middle Tn Spawn

Featured Replies

Because of the higher temps this month is it here already? At what water temps does it typically begin? Really I might just be looking for a spawn breakdown.

The spawn has not started on Pickwick, but the fishing is the best it has EVER been!

That's what I read in another post. Sound like y'all are having some fun out there!

Any updates? Also, how are you all targeting fish in these areas?

  • Super User

Well, the TVA is not running water in the morning. If that changes for Friday and/or Saturday, I'm fishing Pickwick below Wilson Dam. Early we will target stripes if they are busting shad. Later we will get after the bass. I doubt much has changed so I will be throwing The Rig, jerkbaits, Red Eyed Shad and the Norman Fat Boy.

So you still don't think that the spawn has started yet?

  • Super User

Nope, not from what my guys are saying.

I have seen no signs other than buck male bass up close to shore....no bloody tales, no other signs!

Jeff

I've been fishing Dale Hollow the last 2 weekends and I've found no signs of the spawn yet either. I caught good solid fish both weekends none of them had bloody tails or looked skinny from dropping eggs. I think the full moon this week will get them going to the bed though.

Fished the TN River this evening just below Knoxville, and they definitely had not gone shallow yet. Only caught one hybrid, and it showed no signs.

Maybe I'm a little too caught up in this, but any updates?

Buckbass are building nest in the creeks, specifically Yellow Creek. However, we did

not catch a single female.

Fished Ft. Loudon Lake today. I just can't seem to figure out whether or not they are spawning.

My prespawn fish disappeared this weekend. The bucks were shallow building nest, caught one bloody. I didn't catch any females and the electronics showed them piled up in 10 - 30 ft of water. But I couldn't get them to bite. I fished Watts Bar. Water temp was 72 - 74.

I only got to fish for an hour or so. The wind was blowing my kayak right into the shore.

I still can't seem to get it figured out. I've had almost zero luck this year so far.

Stop focusing on the spawn. The fish are in 5'-10' of water off gravel banks and flats. The lures I mentioned earlier in this post

are wearing them out! Add a Rage Shad to the mix, too.
