Umbrella Rig Smallmouth

Featured Replies

I found this really cool video on youtube on umbrella rigs for smallies. Has anyone tried this for smallies yet? Looks like fun.

illegal in the State of NH. My buddy just got busted for using one. His license has been suspended for hunting and fishing atleast until he goes to court in July.

please warn people

he bought it at a local Dicks sporting goods the morning he got caught using it.

Same here in Mass. Totally illegal! Besides, I can't even toss an 8" Hudd for more than an hour before the tendonitis kicks in! :)

Cant use it here in WI also. Plus I would not want to. I lose way to many lures a year due to snags. I get ticked when I lose a 5 dollar lure. I do not think I could stand to lose 30 plus dollars.

If any of your states our like mine (Washington) you can use 3 lures. It is legal to use a dummy bait or just replace two of the swimbaits with spinnerbait blades. I just bought a couple to play around with but haven't had a chance to throw them yet.

seems like cheating to me.

The Rig is magic! I have been fishing it all year, but mostly for stripers. I have mine rigged

as light as possible: LFT Live Magic Shad, weightless, on the outside; a Johnson Silver Spoon in

the middle. The hooks are light wire 4/0 Offset Worm Hooks. I have never caught a fish, nor has

anyone I fish with, on the outside hooks.

Andy Posse told me flash is the key. There are many options. On another rig I have a willow blade

supported with beads on the middle arm (above the swivel). The bait is a larger Shad, Shadalicious

or Hollow Belly.

Could you post a photo of your setup? That sounds quite interesting

yes please post a pic, looking for ideas to keep the rig on the lighter side. Bought one to mess around with to try something new.
