Melting Soft Plastics

Featured Replies

I'm wondering if I can melt down my used plastics and re-pour them? Not sure how remelting the plastic will go? Anyone do this and have any helpful input?

Yes I do. You can do it in a pan with a hot plate. You can do it in a microwave with a pyrex measuring cup. You will need a mold to pour the plastic into.

When you mix colors you normally get green or brown. Don't use scented baits like gulp.

I suggest you go to www.tackleunderground.com and look up don'ts for newbies in the soft plastic forum.

MMan yes this is very easy to do. If you run into any troubles you can PM me and I can help out

At one time, I never through any soft plastics away - I'm Scottish :)

I would sort them into storage cans and when the time was right, I would wash them in a mild dish-washing soap, lay them out to dry on paper towels, and then remelt them. If I recall, the remelts were not as transparent as fresh plastic, but they worked great.

I didn't know bout stabilizer's then or I would have used it.

Tip: if your doing small batches, use a cup or pan to match the volume of your job. Also, when you have leftover plastic in the pan, let it cool into a small flap-jack that fits nicely into a sandwich size zip-lock.
