French Fries?

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any suggestions on which french fry baits I should look into getting?  Also, what colors would be a good starting point?  I fish both clear and stained water around here.  Thanks!

Zoom in watermelon neon ;)

Definitely the first time i've ever heard the term french fry bait! hahaha

Zoom for me as well. My 3 favorite colors are any dark color like Junebug, Watermelon Red & Smoke Purple.

Same here never heard of French Fry baits, but my go to color is always Watermelon

Thanks for the replies.  I heard the term on the Classic Patterns DVD w/ Ike.  They look like a krinkle cut french fry.

Zoom calls it a Centipede but by what ever name it's with out a doubt deadly on a Carolina rig ;)

That thing looks funky, but if it works it work. I guess what doesn't look weird out there these days : )

I heard they were good on a c-rig, but i'm going to try and tail weight it with a small nail shoved into the tail end.  This is supposed to make it glide away from you, and straight into the fish's face.  It should be good to get under docks and other cover.

French Fries are old-school......they were calling them that 15 years ago when I started fishing them for the first time.

I've caught a TON of bass on them - spots, smallies and largemouth.  Go-to Carolina rig bait for sure.

The Zoom is great, though there isn't really much of a difference in any of brands I've used......we're just talking about a little straight piece of soft plastic here.   ;)

Don't ever try that with a senko or a trickworm. It doesn't work. They HAVE to be fished weightless. ::);)

Burger King has pretty good french fries, I like them better than the McDonalds ones.  Jack n the box has some d**n good seasoned curly fries.

;)

The zoom centepede (french fry) was one of the first plastics I started fishing when I was a kid.  I caught tons of fish on them.  I still have a few in my tackle box, but I haven't used them in a long time.

Do you guys like using them on a light split shot rig or mojo type rig for shallower applications than ones you would use a C - Rig in?

Lake Fork Tackle ring fry is my go to c-rig bait. They are also a pretty good wacky rig bait. Watermelon seed & chartreuse-pepper are the pretty much the only colors I throw

Yep

I've had good luck with a Zoom fish doctor on a split shot rig!  It's basically a french fry type bait, it's just not really square, its kinda rounded with a flat bottom.   I almost always use green pumpkin, or regular pumpkin even in really stained water.  If waters to dark, I dye the end chartruese.

BTW,  a split-shot rig can be a great finesse rig on water where people over use a shakey head!!!

#1/wide gap with a nail at one end to dart away from you,but if you tail hook it threw the side, nail on top, when you throw your bait into something it will dart out, trying to escape.#2 t-rigged and #3 to float.10lb test.Forgot the drop shot rig.Even noodling.
