i fish braid with my jigs and topwater. nano with my spinning gear. berkley flouro with my crankbaits hardbaits etc.

looking for any opinions on brands, or technique. i used to use mono for everything but cant really find a place for it anymore? strengths?

do you guys feel that one brand is more sensitive than another? powerpro braid. berkley flouro. and nano on the spinning gear. im fully satisfied with the sensitivity of the nano. stregnth all the way around a good spinning line.

i went to flouro on the hard baits to get extra depth. but fishing shallow thats not always a good thing. im looking for sensitivity more than anything. fishing with revos and veritas rods. any help appreciated.

I use yo zuri hybrid its amazing w sensitivity and the strength its excellent.

I've never put all that much emphasis on sensitivity, I'm confident in my ability distinguish a bite from a snag or weeds. If in doubt I don't think anything beats braid. I can't say I've had a measurable difference from one brand to another.

I use mono for top water and spinner baits and traps.

IMO:Floro sinks to fast, you don't want to use it on top water, and for reaction bites like traps and spinner baits I feel more confidant with mono, Iv broken off with floro to many times.

I agree with gar tracker when it comes to mono. I always use it for topwater and spinners. I'm not a fan of fluoro at all. I cast my worms with braid. If the fish are finnicky I add a fluoro leader. I also use fluoro as my leader on a carolina rig. Other than that, it has no use to me.

I have taken to coloring the last 3' or so of the braid with a black Sharpie. I cut a slit in the head of the Sharpie and it makes it easy to do.

i use 50# braid on most with 65# for flipping. the only mono i use is like most, for giggy and spinnerbaits. the only mono i use for topwater is for popping baits. i love the jig loop and a pop'r. i'm with evrglades, not a big fan of flouro. i have one spinning outfit with 8# fluoro for drop shot.

Lefty, at one time a few years ago Ike and Kevin VanDam said to use mono for treble hook baits and flourocarbon for all other baits.

If you read or follow Kevin VanDam he now uses flourocarbon for all presentations.

I still use mono for treble hook baits. Just remember, the lighter the line weight the deeper the hardbaits will pull through the water column. However, there are pros and cons about line weight and baits you are throwing.

Everyone has their favorite line brands. What you need to do is check your rod's specifications regarding line test and bait weights and stay within those paramaters for each specific rod.

Then experiment. Try different lines. Buy line from tackle shops that have a high turnover as you do not want line that has been sitting on the shelf for many months or years. Contact via email the line manufactueres you like best to ask how to read their dating numbers on each spool so you can use that data to insure you will buy the freshest line available.

Join B.A.S.S. and FLW and get their magazines which have articles about line from time to time and also line suggestions from the pros. You can also suscribe to Bass Anglers Magazine and Bassin' plus visit various pros web sites and read what they say about line.

A word of caution: each pro has a line sponsor so they will hawk their specific lines. It is going to be up to you over this summer and into the future to use different lines to find the ones you like.

And change your line every month and before every tournament. Be sure not to point your rod tip towards a fish when landing them as this puts a lot of stress on your line and the fish could break off. Keep rod tip to the left, right or up in the air.

Also, run your thumb's fingernail over your line from the rod tip to the bait after landing a fish or every so often when fishing. If you feel any nicks cut the line off and retie. This is a must for any line you are using. Place the line between your thumb's fingernail and your first finger and just run down the line. You will be surprised as to the number of nicks you can find, each reducing your test strenght down to a lower level.

So read, read and read some more about lines and their pros and cons. Just remember the pros will be hawking their lines so you will receive more honest information from this forum from us guys who don't support any one brand over another.

Google John W. Torsch and suscribe to his email. He also has conference call seminars weekly and he is a great guy. He loves frog fishing and is a master at it. He can give you his insight into lines as he is an independent fishing guy.
