Any advise on these reels? They are on sale now for 49.99 at Basspro and I would like to try one as a first baitcaster. Am also thinking of the 7.1 ratio, is that a good choice? I will be using it for small cranks and senkos on a 6'6" MH rod. Thanks for any opinions. I was asking Santa for a Citica for X-mas befor I ran across this.
Thanks

People who have extreme reel's either love them or hate them.............I have a few, the older model that is no longer offered with the internal 6 pin adjustable brake is actually a darn good reel, I have the slower speed model on my crank bait rod and have used the heck out of it for several years with no problems, just basic lube and maint. I also have the newer model with the external adj. casting control.......the ones BPS has on sale now. I am not sure on this one, it is smooth, but it can't hold a candle to the castability of the older ones, and it backlashes quite a bit more when trting to use smaller baits. I have had no mechanical troubles with it after a full seaon of use, but I don't think I am going to buy another, even at the low price they are offered now. NOW with that beeing said don't be scared of this reel either, I probably try to toss TOO small of baits with it, and if I was in the need for a new reel and $50 was my limit I would buy another I can't think of a better reel for $49 and they are reliable, but I am not in the market for any new BC reels this offseason ( our lakes freeze so there IS an offseason for abit) but when I do decide to buy another and/or replace this reel it will be with another Daiwa, either a procaster ( I have had one for 3 years now and it's IMHO the best reel under $100) or maybe an advantage, but my price range pretty much tops out at $100.
I am not afraid to suck.

I wouldn't get a 7.1 as a first reel... and I sure wouldn't get a 7.1 as a crankbait reel.

I got yesterday the ETX 10 SLC since I can't find a low speed for a lefty in other brands, it feels like crap, the handle wiggly and the reel make noice, it went back this morning.
I like the Extreme rods but the reels...never again.

i just bought one of those about a week ago for a first time baitcaster. (except i got the rod/reel combo for $100) and i love it, it backlashes alopt less than i expected because of the magnet and friction thing that controls how fast the spool goes. i didnt get the 7.1 tho i got the 5.4
id recomend it to anyone

Why not?
