  1. I would fish the creeks, especially with those shad around. Thats why the bass go to the creeks in the fall is they follow the bait in there. Try throwing some cranks.
  2. I try not to have a style. I try my best to be versitle in my fishing its the only way to become a better angler... But I enjoy topwater most because of the explosion on top.
  3. its your choice. Everyone will have a bad story about all types of outboards. My ex tourney fishing partner always said mercury was the worst. He had a Johnson on his boat and every time we went out fishing we had to put the boat back on the trailor because of his engine problems. He bought a new bassboat that came with a merc on it , and he said as soon as he could afford to he was getting a different brand. Anyway he hasnt had a problem with it and his new fav is merc. So it all depends on you.
  4. get a humminbird legend off ebay for 160.00 buy it now. Has temp, speed and very good detail
  5. use lower pound test it will get your bait deeper
  6. i made a popper out of a piece of wooden broom handle. It was black with white belly, it actually worked but I lost it to a bowfin in lake champlain
  7. dont think anyone mentioned fishing shallow, the bass will likely be in shallow water when its muddy. My first choice is a 3/4oz or bigger chartruese spinnerbait with gold colorado blade also put a trailor and trailor hook on the back for short strikes. The trailor will keep the bait from dragging bottom in shallow water. I really like topwater popperfrogs also, especially over laydowns. The dirty water is a great place to start this time of the year because muddy water will warm before clear water. Hope this helps
  8. what state do you live in. The water temp is a big factor this time of year. What type of lake, how deep type of structure etc.
  9. well I went fishing and it was tough to say the least. In some parts of the lake i was splitting through some thin ice. I found a weedline that had 50 degree water and stayed there until i left. I pulled 1 sm and 2 lm .smallie was pound and a half and the largemouths were 2 3/4 and 4lbs. It felt real good to pull them in after 6 months of winter. Fished 2 hours. Going friday to ticondaroga on lake champlain.
  10. lake champlain, every type of cover in this place. One of the best bass fisheries in the country
  11. its probably the best time of the year to catch salmon and trout from shore because the cool water. The fish are better to eat this time of year also because of the cool water makes it less chance for worms in the meat of the fish.
  12. well got my boat today instead of friday going monday now supposed to be 70 degrees the highest its been here in 6-7 months tell ya how i did
  13. basstenders is a good choice they make a few different models made of plastic and very durable i owned one for 2 years and i was very pleased with it
  14. grass carp are great to control algea but crawfish do the trick as well + their excellent for the bass. My dads friend has a smallmouth pound that we have pulled state records from but they dont count because their hand feed. too bad because theres 8 pounders in it. He uses crawfish and has never had a problem.
  15. wanted to know what most people do as far as do you mostly fish shoreline or deep structure. When i first started i was a bank beater now i prefer offshore stuff. Seems the fish are less pressured
  16. looks like some of the ponds here in vermont are ice free. Just in time my boat just got fixed, some water got into some seal in the motor had to replace 40.00 not too bad. Anyway going out saturday at a place called sabin pond. Last year day after iceout i pulled 7 2-3 pound largies of suspending rogue jerkbait. Its going to feel real good fighting a bass for the 1st time in 7 months. Let ya no how i did saturday.
  17. you can always get rid of chine walking by adjusting the trim. Might lose a little speed but it will be a safe rid. What do you guys think of stratus boats i havent heard much about those on this site. I agree with the triton marketing, thats the only reason why people think there so good, because bass is sponsored by them or vise versa. Also is a bass cat a good boat I looked at a 21 footer today with a 225 e tech on it they wanted $23,000 for it .the boat is a 2002 or 2004 cant remember
  18. 2005 toyota tundra 4wd trd with sidestep bed havent made a payment on it yet
  19. i think it may be between 15-25hp should say on the plate in the back of the boat
  20. visual cover like trees stumps weedlines since i can see the structior it makes me believe that there is fish there. I usually start with jigs or a spinnerbait.
  21. i guess you must be talking about plastics. It take a long time to happen but if it does you must not be catching enough fish. The plastic if it is in the water too long will start to break down and become slimey and will increase in size.
