  5. well, i am all of them. I study the patterns at my lakes, usually find good spots that produce BIG bass all year long. I fish many different lakes. I usually go to certain spots because they are near a trail and hold bass between 2-8 lbs ( pike walleye and crappie too) Caught my PB there of 6 1/2 pounds
  6. pike usually will gobble all your lures before the bass will, so catch all the pike, walk ten feet downshore, let them go, and eventually you will start getting bass. OR, Try a different spot, there may be too many pike and hardly any bass at this spot.
  7. YOU ARE FROM MASSACHUSETTS? ME TOO! I usually fish either spoons or blade baits for smallies for lures. for live bait i usually choose either crawfish or shiners. Shiners just use the smallest boober possible, paint it light blue, and use a small live bait hook. For crawfish hook them threw the tail with a hook and drag them slowly along the bottom. I usually fish Watchusett Reservior, recently got a bronze pin for a smallie, looks great on my mantle
  8. both, I know a excellent spot where i can pull in 2-6 lbers all day, i mean like 20-50 on a whole fishing day on suturday, only a few dinks mixed in maybe get 2 of those. Once maybe every 2 days a 7 or 8 lber
  9. the water is cystal clear, can see down about 30 feet when the water is calm
  10. do smallies really like tubes and senkos? Never tried a tube, never any luck on pink 6 inch stickbaits
  11. rw, the bass don't even look at the lures, even huge 7 inch worms dragged 3 feet away from them, its as if they aren't hungry. I have 6 pound clear mono, thats pretty unnoticable, no snap swivel, and I make sure to hide the hook well. tntitans, this reservoir is shore fishing only, I have dragged crawdads along the bottom, they don't even notice it. Today I tried shiners, I used a dozen, used 3 on a bobber, then the rest for casting, I almost got a decent 2 lber, it followed it right up to the shore then swam away, came back striked but missed and swam away, I wasn't even reeling it in fast. Then I saw a guy pull in 2 right away AGAIN on a 7 inch green lizards and a 1/4 green bullet weight.
  12. Ok, I'm fishing a reservior that is chock full of smallies, I fish this one desertted spot really close to the shore, its a really steep drop off ledge that is about a mile long, though this is the only spot you can sight fish it. When its choppy there are no smallies, but when its flat calm a group of them swim by every 5-10 minutes. It appears that the smallies are in the current created by the ledge and the tides, but not really eating anything. I have put soft shell crawdads on bobbers, dragged the bottom with them but only one look at one. The bottom is sand and gravel and there are tons of crawfish all around under the rocks. No lures work either. If you are not wearing camo they will see you and not bite it. I tried reaction bite but they just look at it and swim away. Tried topwater, nothing. I haven't tried live shiners yet, would they be a option? What can I do to get them to bite? Some of the smallies appear to be chasing a school of spawning golden shiners, maybe if I put a shiner on a bobber and a hook would convince them to bite? The smallies here are huge 2-7lbs so people use 7 inch dark green lizards embedded with glitter and sometimes get them.
  13. I fish a local lake, about 1 square mile large. I see tons of trout, browns, rainbow, and sometimes lakers jump, escpecially the lakers at birds. However there are also huge populations of shiners, sunnys, bass and pike living there. Wouldn't the pike and bass eat all the trout? trout are about 10-25 inches long on average
  14. i was trying some small crawdads i found but they looked at them and didn't bite i was using bobber and hook, so the crawdad was suspended in the water, should i just use a weight and leave it on the bottom? usually people at this spot fish for lake trout and salmon, sometimes muskie, in the spring they fish for smallies. what is a reaction bite?
  15. I fish a ridge near the shore and it drops about 30 feet going 10 feet out. How come I only see the Smallies from about 11am to 3 or 4pm and then they dissapear? usually the don't bite anything, should i just use a weight and keep a large crawdad down there? this place is heavily fished so the fish look at the bait and then look at me, look at the crawdad again and don't take it, should I keep away from the bank?
  16. crawdads? shiners? smelt? worms? how to rig crawdads bobber, yes or no
  17. cool i live in mass too, where did you catch it? Watchusett? qunsigamond? quabbin? or long pond? or some place unknow? I caught a fish that long but it was really skinny, almost 4 and a half at a secret location
  18. did a human do it with a carp or something?
  19. i caught a lm/ smallie hybrid (shape of a largemouth, bronze like a smallie) once also a perch and walleye combo ( vertical blac stripes with red spot)
  20. i caught a northen on a trout pole and live crawdad, about 4 feet, could fit nfl football in its mouth
  21. umm some rediculous ammount, like 30-60 dolloars. Don't leave any tackle out of your vision, learned the hard way someone will take it. just don't use a fishing liceasnce, they don't check you if your at a gate and have to walk 1 mile to the water.
  22. depends where i fish, i fish in a large place and i either catch dinks, huge motherf pike, or bass around 1-3lbs average 2 pounds
  23. yes this "pond" is about half a mile wide and 2 miles long with coldwater discharge, large pike (caught a 5 foot 1 yesterday, what a fight!) native, lake, rainbow, brown and brook trout. Lots of bluegills, white perchs, loons, kingfishes, beavers, 6lb largemouth, i am sure there are some smallmouth in here. rs If i can't catch one soon i'll stock it I found an old canoe in the woods maybe I should take it out one day... the rangers don't have a boat
  24. yes i am sure, they look like lmb finglerlings with lots of spots, i even saw a smallie maybe 6 inches long. and the place is pretty big, used to be a reservoir and has a discharge of some sort.
  25. never been there smallie fishing before wondering where to start. ( i was trout fishing and got my tackle box stolen at the old stone church and no fish there so i,m no going there)
