i have not tried Samurai, but i like Sufix braid so much i don't see a reason to switch. i use 50 lb for thr frog rig. and either 40 or 50 pound for fishing jigs, using fluro leaders, and the exact same knot that was stated earlier, uni and clinch knot combo, which was shown to me by a guide at Clearlake. tied perfectly that know is dynamite. for the two spinning outfits i use 20lb sufix with fluro leaders. i'm sure you will be hapy with Sufix braid. and you wil love the sensitivity of fishing with braid when fishing jigs, or t-rigs. and if i want to flip or pitch with no leader i just use my frog outfit. i'm always changing something though, it keeps me enthused

another vote for Sufix Elite, either 10lb or 12lb

do a search of this site and you will find that the general consensus is that the Fuego, with it's heavy spool, is best suited for something over 1/4oz. i own one, and i agree with the consensus.

if you could purchase either a Shimano core 50, or a NIB Daiwa Aphas Ito for the same amount (and i can) which would you choose? thanks Bob

i have a couple of fuego reels, and would love to have the option of the tdz spools. however, i'm having a hard time finding them for sale anywhere. are they available anywhere other than Daiwa? if so please let me know where to buy. thanks

As an owner of a Mattlures hard bluegill(floating) I would like to say that this lure catches fish! And a bass does not have to be a monster to think it can eat this lure. so don't think you are fishing for only 7 or 8 pounders and bigger with this lure because I've had 3 pounders hit it many times. And as for the price: lure-$50.00 Look on my 25 year old son's face when a 7lb bass blew up on his deadsticked bluegill-priceless. That was at clearlake this last July. Awesome.

google search 'clear lake fishing guides' and you will get a few websites which should have fairly current fishing reports. they can be very helpful.

i think he's talking about what we call 'cheese mats', created by weeds that grow to the service and then turn sideways, creating large areas of yellow/green, which look like cheese. there are some huge ones here on clear Lake, and we typically fish them with frogs, or punch thru with 1oz weights and some sort of creature: beavers, or brush hogs, jigs etc.

i've not tried the Stren braid, but i use Suffix braid on many of my reels, and i see no reason to try anything else. Suffix braid really has been great for me. i use it for all applications except for wacky senkos, for which i use flurocarbon. i use uni to uni knots to add leaders where required and use Suffix braid without any leaders for frogin, and sometimes for flippin and pithin. if you hve not tried Suffix, give a try.

i've got several large swimbaits that i very rarely throw because they are just too much work to fish with. but i try to use most all my other stuff. i prettymuch junk fish every time i go out, unless i'm sure i know exactly what the big girls are chewing. i start with several different types of topwaters until the sun is too bright and then i start trying to find the depth their at with a rattletrap or shallow running crank. and i just work deeper and deeper until i find um!

years agol i fished the back seat with a pro who used lizards and brush hogs as trailers almost exclusively. he nailed some nice fish doing it too! i've been using mostly brushhogs as trailers since. sometimes i bite the nose off and sometimes i don't. try it...what have you got to lose?
