What do you want in a topwater rod??
I have the Legend Tournament 'topwater' rod, and love it for throwing the walking type topwaters. it's 6'8" M XF. I've got a core 50 on it right now and that makes for a very fun combo to fish. I also use the Legend tournament 'teaser' rod at times, which is a 7' MF. Both great for chucking topwaters. And with the Core reel I can throw very light baits.

What size braid for t-rigging, light jigging.
50# on baitcasters and 20-30# on spinning reels. leader size depends on the cover and/or what im throwing. X-3. But I'm thinking about trying some 40lb on a baitcaster. Just to see how it goes.

Casting Reel Advice....REVO, Daiwa, Shimano? I want to do it right the first time!
I think you will be very pleased with your new Curado 200e7. Check them out on Ebay, and you can probably pick one up for ~$140.00-$150.00 with free shipping and no tax. And then just go learn how to cast it. I think having too many controls on your first baitcaster will just make it harder to go have fun with it. All of the major players make great high end reels. But you'll love your new Curado.

Luckycraft baits
I've not had the problem with Rapalas not running true, and I have lots of the DT series. but for suspending minnows you will not beat a LC pointer, and they are worth the money. I agree with some of the others though, that in the deep diving crankbaits you can do just as well with less expensive baits. I do believe that the RC 1.5 & 2.5 series baits are hard to top for shallow cranks. And somebody mentioned the Skeet series. I can't say enough good things about those baits. I've got one of the original Skeet Mini series that is just a fish magnet. Buy a couple of Pointers. You will know why others spend the extra money for them.

15# Yo-Zuri Hybrid
There's a local tackle shop that's selling 600 yds of this line for $5.95. I've never tried it, but it seems to get good reviews here, so I think I'll give it a try.

Help me choose a line for my 6'6 xf M Zillion Rods
I own the Zillion 7'M. I do think it's much better suited as a plastics rod than either topwater, or jerkbait. However, you could use it for all threee if you wish. If you are going to do all three uses I think the best way to go is braid with a mono leader. And if you get good at tieing the braid to mono or fluro knot of your choice(Alberto for me) you can switch it out to meet your needs. Using the fluro leaders for jigs, plastics, etc. Mono for the topwater fishing. and if you are in some murky water you can just fish the braid, though I rarely do that. But some guys swear by it. I've found that by using braid I have great flexibility with all of my outfits because I can switch my leaders depending on where or when I'm fishing or what I'm fishing for, without me having to respool the reels. And as for the braid having no stretch, therefore not being a great choice for trebles, I've found that by using leaders, and learning to set my drag correctly, and learning what type of hook set to put on the fish, this is not an issue either. Great rod , I'm sure happy with mine. It's for sure more powerful than a typical medium, but still very light and fun to fish, Good luck

MS Gunmetal Shad-Luckycraft
Has anybody had a chance to try this color, in any of the various pointer ripbaits by Luckycraft. Let me know what you think. It's getting to be that time of year for me, and I've had great success with their pointers in ghost minnow and chart. shad, but this fairly new color looks like it might be worth a shot. Thanks Bob

new dt colors
As they say...to each his own. I've broken a few DT's but I'm going to keep using them caus they flat out catch fish for me, more than other cranks, even Lc's which cost way more. And they run true, period. And I can't wait to try a couple of the new colors!

Jig Fishing
I think between Catt and Bassthumb you have your answer. What I would add is to try darker colors as well, in that water. try some black jigs with pork trailers in dark purple or black. Or try black and blue

You must not be holding it right....
I forgot to mention...if I could fish that spot all the time I think I would just keep the rod tip high sometimes, just to see one of those monsters rise up and spit the hook. There's nothing more majestic than seein' a really big bass come clean out of the water and shake it's head. If you were fishin a tournament that would be different, but you're not, so why not?
-
You must not be holding it right....
For sure rod tip down, and opposite. If you are using good hooks perhaps the fish are not totally committing to your lure, and therefore aren't getting the lure into their mouth. And constant pressure is good, but too much pressure is bad, especially if they are not hooked perfectly. Fish that size can put enough pressure on the hook to tear it loose, if you have the drag set too tight. You might want to try a slightly different color lure to see if they will commit to it better as well. Good luck...and I hope you realize how lucky you are to have such a great spot to fish. And I hope those two who were keeping the fish moved, or changed their ways.

Have bought 2 - help me pick 1 more rod
i have the Kislter you are considering, and I've put many miles on it so to speak. I think it's better suited for spinnerbaits, and other lures that require a bit slower action, so I fished it mostly for throwing spinnerbaits, and sometimes paddletails, or even big cranks. I've passed it on to my son at this point, but if you can get a deal on one, it's a decent stick. I too think the Powells at $140 are the better deal though.

I'm never buying tackle on ebay again...
I think those of you who are complaining about the shipping costs need to realize the shipping fee listed is what you are going to pay, and not what the actual shipping cost is. If I list a shipping fee of, say, $10.00 for an item, that is what you are going to pay for shipping. I'm NOT saying how much it will cost me to ship the item. So like others have said just add the shipping and the item price, and either buy it or don't buy it. And as to the post: I've purchased many items on Ebay without any issues.

Crankbait rod opinions
you should check out tackletour's crankbait rod comparisons. You have lots of great options. I've got a Phenix x-12 that I love. I like the PHenix rods becuaw they are lighter than most crankbait rods, and I find the lighter rods much easier to use for long periods of time. Especially when throwing med/deep crankbaits. Good luck with your search. take your time

Need new rod for Shimano Cl4
I've got mine on a Dobyns Champion 702, not the Extreme, and it's really a nice combo. For the 230 bucks the Dobyns is a very good deal.
