I'm never buying tackle on ebay again...

Recommended Posts

Unless their feedback is 100% I won't buy tackle on there again. Not 99.2, not 99.6, not even 99.9999999%. I rarely meet a fellow angler that's a jerk. These forums are a testament to the character of fisherman abroad. Sure, there's an idiot here or there but mostly good people. So, why then are there so many crooks in the tackle industry? I've dealt with some horrendous people in it and not just on ebay.

First this guy rips me off on the shipping. Charged me for Priority then sent it First Class. Priority takes 2-3 days from Ca. and it took 9 days for him to ship from NC to me. Ca. is twice over twice as far away. I ordered several items. Most were correct but he sends me regular Tru Tungsten worm weights instead of the T-Rig weights like I ordered. No big deal. I tell him and he responds with just keep those and I will send you the T-rigs immediatly for free. Well, since he was so quick to resolve the problem I am willing to forgive the shipping issue and leave him positive feedback. That was over two weeks ago...still no T-rigs.

Yeah, I'm getting a FISHING FEVER from this TACKLE shop alright. ;)

I've never had an issue buying tackle on eBay, this forum, or elsewhere for that matter.  Perhaps it was just a stroke of bad luck.

I think it was bad luck.. I sell a lot of stuff on ebay and my feedback is 100%, and I also buy a lot of stuff on ebay and have had very few bad experiences, but they are out there..some people are just there for the money, hence the ripoff shipping charges.

That shipping deal is quite common, it ticks me off also. But as far as ebay goes, I used to sell on there and probably will again this winter and out of the couple thousand transactions I can honestly say there were only a couple I blocked, and that was because of super slow payments, I would say 99% of fisherman you are going to deal with are good eggs, some do have a crack or 2 every once in awhile though ;)

Phil, my good friend sells stuff on eBay and he makes money with the "shipping and handling."

He laughs about it.  ;)   ;)   :D

If the listing says priority shipping 2-3 days and you are not getting the item(s) until 9 days later, you have a legitimate beef. If you are ticked enough open a case.

I had a similar issue recently as I had bought some items that I thought were going to arrive before a trip I had planned. They did not get to me the day before I left so I contacted the seller and was told they had not even shipped yet. needless to say, I was ticked. He offered me a full refund for all the items and that took over a month and a half to resolve. Not until I opened a case with ebay did I get a full refund. Sellers do not want bad feedback and opening a case can be your best weapon for satisfaction.

I can honestly say this is the only bad tranaction I have had.

Bad luck no. It was ignorance on my behalf for fooling with someone that has 99.2% positive. I've never had a single issue with someone that has 100% positive feedback. I am also a seller(with 100% positive feedback) and know how hard it is to satisfy every single person when you have thousands of transactions every year but it happens.

Making money on shipping is not the issue here. I make money on shipping to. Everybody does. Ebay gets so and so percentage of the final sale price. You tack a few bucks on shipping because ebay doesn't get any of that money. This is not dishonest because it doesn't change the final value the customer pays. This guy charged me for Priority then used a slower, cheaper method of delivery. That's false advertisement.

As far as jacked up shipping prices go...

There is no rip-off there. There is no difference in buying an item for $15+$5 shipping than buying it for $1+$19 shipping they both still equal $20

Not trying to argue with anyone about this. Just wanted to shed a little light about "jacked up" shipping. There is nothing sinister behind it.

File a claim and report the seller if you are that P.O.'d.

I am that POd. Like I said before, I was willing to let the shipping fly but he hasn't sent me the right item yet. That was the real problem.

Something I failed to mention, he did the same thing a couple of months ago. I bought a Cumara from him and the same thing...paid for Priority got Parcel Post. He slid that one by the Post Office. He pre-printed his label and put in smaller dimensions than the package actually was to avoid the bubble charge for an over-sized package. That was the first thing I bought from him and thought maybe someone had made a mistake but now I know he is just a crook.

I don't make money on shipping. I have sold hundred's of musical related items, along with guns and firearms accessories. I ALWAYS include the price of shipping with the item.

Just pointing out that there are no absolutes

Yeah, I'm with you 100% on that. I didn't think about it until I had already ordered the other stuff from him. In fact it didn't even come to mind until the deal started to go sour.

It took me many more words than you to get my point across but like you said...

The best price is seldom the best deal.

I sell stuff on Ebay all the time and had my auction end on the 23rd of a month, and I didnt get the payment until the 6th of the next month.

The buyer then goes and spouts about how long it took for the item to get to him.

UHHHMMM Most sellers on Ebay dont ship the item they've sold until payment has been made(am I not correct?).So the guy wonders why it took so long for his stuff to arrive, guess he should have calculated how long it took for his payment to be made before he spouted off.

Some people make a killing on shipping. They charge lets say $8.00 and when the item arrives you see it only cost $1.57 to ship. Thats crooked.

I always Over estimate,to ensure im not short changed at the P.O when I ship, but will refund the difference(overage) back to their paypal account in good faith.

I had an issue once where I bought some Stren FC line for cheap.I got the package quickly, but it was Berkley Trilene Mono.

I contacted the seller and he said someone had helped him package his items and sent out the wrong one. Told me to keep the Trilene Mono for my troubles and a few days later I got my correct stuff in the mail at no charge. Now thats a stand up thing to do.

I know this is a bit off topic and has nothing to do with my situation but I have to ask...

Some of you are fussing about high shipping cost on ebay, why?

All you have to do is add the shipping cost plus the item price. If the total is more than you want to pay....don't buy it. Why would $15 shipping + $5 item cost be any different from paying $15 item cost + $5 shipping? The total is still $20 either way.

Agreed. Shipping costs are clearly listed. If you feel it's too high move on. Don't moan about something you had total control over.

Ebay has been putting caps on shipping charges lately. When I sold my guitar, it wouldn't allow me to charge more than $18 i think it was... I also sold my 360 and it wouldn't allow me to charge more than $10 in shipping. They are starting to get smart, but it was actually only $14 to ship my guitar and $7 to ship my 360 ;)

Ebay is a great place to buy tackle. I find bulk Rapala's all the time and snag them up for a lot less than retail...

They do not have to pay ebay fees on shipping, so the more they can bilk out of you on shipping the cheaper their fees are, its screwing ebay out of their money, and you out of yours, there is a report button to turn them in for "circumventing ebay fees" which is the technical term.

Myself I did free shipping for a long time, but between postal fees and ebay fees I had to start charging $1.99 for a lure, and 50¢ for each additional bait they win. My average charge at the post office for a single bait is $2.19 and that includes 80¢ for a delivery confirmation so I can prove they got the item.
