New Spinning reel opinions!
take a look at the Daiwa Sol. check out the prices on ebay. i can't speak about the new Stradic, but the Daiwas are bullet proof, at least mine have been. and i can't say that about the old Stradic. i think Daiwa makes the best spinning reels. of curse it's just my opinion. but it's based on way too many years of fishing. I've got a couple of sols and a couple of Fuego reels and they have all been perfect. and they have many hours of fishing on them. 20-30 lb braid with fluro leaders.

Which Cumara do you like for t-rigs and jigs?
hard to say without knowing more specifically what you will fish with the rod, but know that they fish stiffer than their rating. the medium is a very strong medium, and the mh fishes more like a h. i like mine though, and for the right price they are great rods. you can find them for less than retail.

Has anybody here used St. Croix's Gold Star + upgrade program?
i traded in my mojo rod for a legend tournament rod. i've got the mlxf spinning rod, and use it for dropshotting. great rod. i've also got their topwater rod and it might be my favorite. it's paired with core 50, and i use it for a variety of techniques including senkos, topwaters, light jigs and t-rigs. i even dropshot with it when i can use 10lb line when dropshotting(clearlake)

What colors do you like to throw in this situation....
well it wasn't overcast toady, but i fished clear lake ca and the water was 2-3 ft vis with algae, very green water. and what they bit best was a rattling jig in black with blue trim and a RI sweet beaver in 4.20. which is dark green on one side, and light and the other, with red flake. was kinda hit and miss but the size was real nice. so i guess contrast, water movement, and i was putting a little hot sauce on em

What do i need a high speed reel for?
For throwing 1/16th oz you would be better served to use a spinning outfit. I've got two of the HSTA 153 reels, and I like them alot. I think they are under - appreciated. There are better baitcasters for throwing ultra-light weights though. But regardless of which baitcaster, at 1/16th oz you are still going to be better off using a spinning outfit. and you don't have to have a 7 to 1 reel to fish. The 6.3 works good for everything. in fact I wish they would make the Curado with that speed.

I need a rod under $150
If you can get the Daiwa L&T for $85 you should get it. give them a test at the tackle shop. these rods have been around for a long time, and at $85 are a really good deal. i think they are much nicer than the other rods on the list. check them out. they are reasonably light, and i've used the frog rod for years, caught many fish with it, and it's as good as ever. i've also had the jig and worm rod for years now, and while i've 'moved up' with my rods, these rods are a really good deal at 85 bucks. at least check them out, and you'll feel what i'm talking about compared to the other rods on the list

1/4 oz - 3/4 oz jig/worm rod
thanks for the feedback. my boat locker is a 7' max. i read in the Bass Anglers Mag, an interview with Gary Dobyns where he says he slowed the action of the dx744 slightly to make it more versatile. i'm wondering if it's that different than the 704. i think i will choose between the 704 and the 744.

1/4 oz - 3/4 oz jig/worm rod
i need opinions as to what rod will fit nicely in between a dobyns 702c and a Loomis mbr 844 glx. I'm thinking either the dobyns 703, or one of the Loomis bcr series(853,854) or even their senko rod (893). if someone who has fished any of these could clue me in on which might fit sort of in the middle of my current two, listed above, i would appreciate it. I'm still fishing a couple of rods i bought quite some time ago in that power , and would like to upgrade. the Dobyns website lists their 703 as xf, and then says it has fast action, so can somebody tell me which they feel those rods have. i would like something with the extra fast tip for this rod. that's one of the reasons I'm asking about the senko rod, it says xf for the action. thanks for the help.

How do you store your soft baits?
i use the plano boxes too. but i've that senkos bleed way worse than others sdo i keep those in their originals, all in a giant zip lock. i've got some very uniquely colored senkos!

whats you favorite summer bait?
my favorite would have to be any topwater, because I'd rather catch on topwater than anything else. but midday i either like a jig for fishing deep, or punching with beavers in the thick stuff. returning to topwaters in the evening, and most likely a frog in the evening.

BCFR954 GLX Flippin stick
buy it and if you don't want it, tell him i'll buy it

Favorite night time fishing lures
big worms, dark colors. and i've had great success with a black buzzjet. and jigs with big trailers, and again: black, purple, junebug.

Zoom Plastics
perhaps they feel they appeal to more people if they don't. that way the customer can chose to add scent or not, and the customer can chose which scent to use if they do want to add some. to each his own..... i like Hot sauce myself, if i use any.

Culling my rods
without knowing the 'stats' for the Kistlers it's hard to know if they would be good crankbait rods, but i'm sure you'll be glad you bought the bcr for worming and jigging!

Jig & Worm Rod Suggestions
go for the Powell 683. best rod for the money. Powells get a little tip heavy at 7 feet, but the 6' 8" models balance nicely. i think they retail for ~$130.00 now. Good luck

Flouro vs Mono for Deepcranking?
I feel I'm better off using sufix deep cranking mono than any flouro. maybe it's just me but by using mono i can cast quite a bit further, and more consistently using mono. using the mono enables me to set up my reel a little looser, enabling longer casts, which theoretically should result in deeper cranking. i've not found a flouro line which will cast(consistently) as well as mono, and i've tried alot of flouro. i can set up the reel "on the edge" so to speak and feel like I'm not going to get a blow up like i might using the flouro.

shad spawn lures?
If you can throw into the boils then a small, shad imitating spook type lure should get picked right up. i throw the barely legal Vixen in flitter shad, which is not made any longer. but a baby spook in flittershad should work. the sammys work great too. ghost minnow, amer shad. ive got a Megass Dog-X in, I think it's called NC shad that works awesome.i've had good luck throwing small megabait lures too. they are very heavy for their size so you can cast them a mile. i just rip them really fast until somewhere in the boil and stop. they get hammered as they fall. and sometimes by the larger fish waiting below the boil for the injured baitfish. so most any spoon that is the right size, and flashes like a bait fish should be enough to fool em when they are in a frenzy! it's an awesome way to fish when you can find it.

need help guys going to bass pro on the 3rd
I think the 6'10" MH split grip Falcon is a rod you will be happy with. very versatile too. you might consider getting it from ***. they will ship it for free, no tax, and you'll have it in a couple of days. I think they are having a July 4th sale too, which would save you 10% or so. I love roaming around BPS, but the one in my area seems to stock alot of inhouse brand rods, and is often out of stock of the other brands' rods. good luck with your choice.

Has anyone used "Slurpies" plastic worms, etc?
Don't know about the worms but I've had great luck with their beaver style baits. I forget what they call them.

Best sub $100 baitcaster...
I agree with what Raul said. that Procaster at $40.00 is a very good deal. And I surprised nobody has offered up any good deals on a used reel for ya. I've got an Exceler, like new, that I will sell you very reasonably if you want.

Favorite single curly tail grub
I wish I didn't have to buy 20 at a time, but I still think Yamamoto are the best. Especially for the lighter jigheads, which is what you asked about. in the larger sizes I like the Kalins. I've caught countless bass with a Yamamoto twin tail grub on a 1/4 jig over the years. and yeah, I know you asked about single tail, and they work too.

Favorite Topwater lure
Depending on the situation: Vixen (flittershad) Megabass Dog-X (nc shad) LC Gunfish (ghost minnow) Sugoi Popper (shad) Buzzbait (balck) Spro frog (natural)

How Does He Do It?
What I find more amazing than how far he throws it, is how he throws it for 6-8 hours a day for three or four days straight, week after week. I can chuck a 3/4oz crankbait pretty far, but after awhile my shoulder and back start talking to me, saying 'can we dropshot for a little while? same thing goes for those guys that throw a swimbait all day. I just can't do that anymore.

Suffix Elite?
I now use Sufix, either Elite or Siege, anytime I use mono. I've been using it for a couple of years now.

Medium Baitcasting rod
No I'm not kidding. An extra fast action I would call ideal for jigs and plastics. Fast action would be second best, which is not ideal.
