  1. I'm in! If I finish my homework, I might hit Barton again tonight. I have the 3 kids by myself all weekend. Little chance I'll be able to fish before Monday night.
  2. No interest in the top water baits on Royal Sat. night. I went back to that same wacky rig and caught a dink at 10:30 near the ball field.
  3. Yep, that was one that you gave me. I only brought one and fished it until it broke in half.
  4. Thanks guys. I was ready to pack it in after having no luck on a buzzbait, spinnerbait or tube when I figured I'd just toss a wacky rigged worm next to the concrete overflow tower thing. Picked it up almost immediately. This was around 10pm. What part of Royal Rob? Still in the shallows? I might head over there tonight.
  5. I'll be at Barton by about 8:30. Feel free to join, but I don't expect anyone to. lol.
  6. Barton has been my nemesis this year. I think I'll be fishing there whenever I get a chance... until I catch something other than a catfish! So that's my Friday plan.
  7. Now that would be a worthy endeavor!
  8. PTOS Happy Hour? Skip it! I went to one of those once waited in line forever to get a free dixie up of beer.
  9. I woke up with a sore throat Saturday morning. It was good to see you guys and hang out but night fishing in the rain apparently isn't my thing... skunked! Nice to meet you Trevor and Mike. We have a pretty cool PTO network growing. Rob did you go out today? I might take my daughter to the local ponds today if the rain lets up.
  10. Good advice. I'll be sure to park a ways back on the street rather than right at the entrance to the trail.
  11. I started using senkos this year and am still totally amazed at how fish respond to them. senkos are definitely my confidence bait of the moment in pretty much any condition. Definitely a good bait for an amateur.
  12. Crap weather wins out. Andrew and I pretty much decided on Royal this morning. I'll be out as early as I can... possibly as early as 5:30.
  13. Forecast doesn't look good. Maybe shore fishing would be the better option.
  14. I was instant messaging Andrew at work yesterday and I think we agreed on Burke Lake. He'll pull my boat to it's maiden voyage. Not sure about the weather though. How will the fish respond to the rain this time of year? Rob and Trevor? Are you guys in?
  15. I could to Burke as well.
  16. I'm partial to Barton, Woodglenn or Royal. It looks like I'll be able to get out early too! My wife is taking the kids in to DC to visit her sister which means I have the night off.
  17. My suggestion would be to start with spinnerbaits and crankbaits... just cast and return, cast and return. Learn the finesse techniques later.
  18. A few of us brought up another trip to Hunting Run when the weather cooled down a bit. Let's get this thing planned. That way I can put it on my calendar and give my wife plenty of advance notice! I have my 12 ft. Jon, but really no suitable vehicle to pull it behind. My wife might need the van. If someone wants to pull it you have a seat in my boat. I should have a decent trolling motor by then and a fish finder. The week of 10/11-12 is no good for me, but I should be able to pull it off any other weekend.
  19. I'm free most nights. Doing anything this Friday?
  20. I've really been envious of you guys that have been able to find time to get out fishing during the day, but that's not my world right now. I put my daughters down to bed right around 8pm every night. That's usually the earliest I can get out. It really takes some planning for me to get out during the day. Anyway, I was out at lake Barton along the dam Sat. eve. around 7:45. I pulled up something big to the surface but it spat out my senko at the rocks. Man did that thing make a splash! I had a couple other strikes but was only able to land a little catfish. Barton seems to be hot now, (considering that Sat. was the first time all year that I've even had a strike there) Rob says that Royal is picking up too. Cooling water temps maybe? Anyone up for some evening fishing? 8-11pm or so? I'll hit any of the Burke area lakes.
  21. Royal was tough the few times I went over the Summer, but I seem to have my best luck in the Fall. I caught a couple nice ones there last November.
  22. I was thinking about doing the same thing, but Rob does have a point. I only have a 6HP engine for my 12 foot jon and I want to keep it light. I have to muscle the boat behind my house and under the deck which is difficult enough with no deck. I'm thinking about just bolting removable swivel chairs to my bench seats and then maybe cutting out a couple pieces of plywood as an easily removable floor, mainly for sound insulation. Where are you in NOVA? I'm no expert either, but I have a table saw and lots of other tools to do the job.
