  1. Is it too shallow for a 12ft jon boat/trolling motor with no heavy deck?
  2. No line of site for directv satellites at my house.
  3. I'll need to be at the bar by 10:30 to get a seat!
  4. 9/7? You mean 2008 NFL kickoff Sunday? Sorry, I'm out.
  5. I think I know what the maiden voyage in my jon boat will be taking me. Sounds like a lot of fun to catch those. Whoever thinks that they are not here to stay is crazy. Catch and kill them fine... but it will not eliminate them. They'll reach a natural balance in the ecosystem in time.
  6. So for the extra 40 bucks you're suggesting I splurge for the MK 55 it seems. Anyone have any personal experience with the BPS motors?
  7. I'm very close to ordering a Bass Pro Shops Prowler 55Lb. trolling motor. Anyone here have any opinions on this? Can't beat the $200 price tag for a 55. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_98208____SearchResults
  8. Wish I could but I'll be on vacation starting 8/20. I'll be up in NY fishing for big smallies in Lake Ontario tribs.
  9. You'll find out the hard way just how much you can get away with and not get thrown in the doghouse. But yeah props for dedicating all your free time to family for the first few months at least.
  10. Congrats man! Kids really will change your life... mostly for the better, but it can be super frustrating as well. I'm lucky if I get to get out fishing once every 2 weeks. But I have 3!
  11. d**n! I would have taken time off work for a day like that.
  12. I caught a little one on a 5" senko in NY last month. Mepps Black Fury's are like chocolate to them as well.
  13. Here's my buddy Tom with a big senko hanging out of this smallie's mouth...
  14. For what it's worth, I'd like to check it out again this fall when it gets a little cooler out. I'll have my boat (with fish finder) and hopefully a trolling motor by then.
  15. How bout we nip all the tongue in cheek bickering in the bud. I can see this getting ugly fast. I'm sure everyone's favorite spot has it's good and bad days. Fish where you want to fish and let's leave it at that.
  16. There were quite a few people out there, but there was still plenty of secluded places to fish. I've had better luck in other lakes with more pressure than yesteday. In yesterday's conditions I'd be surprised if the total take from the res was over 50. A fish finder probably would have helped us scout it out and find where they were hiding. There seemed to be some pretty steep dropoffs and at times we were definitely fishing blind.
  17. That's a rocky for sure. The give is the red eyes. Nice to see they are this far south. Up north they are all over the place. Fun fish to catch, but they definitely compete with the smallmouth in shallow rocky areas. When my boat is ready I'll have to check that place out.
  18. The day seemed promising when my first cast hit the water, something grabbed my senko and started running. I wasn't ready and missed it... a few little ones is all I ended up landing for the day. It was sunny, hot and the water was crystal clear. No pics to show here.
  19. My wife just received this email from our conservancy. This is one of our local bass ponds. "[07/01/08] NEWS FROM THE FACILITIES & RESOURCES DEPT: A fish kill was experienced at Meadow Pond due to Algaecide that mixed with rain causing a PH unbalance. The ponds maintenance contractor, Aquatic Environment Consultants, cleaned up the fish kill earlier today; however, it is possible for residents to see some additional dead fish in Meadow Pond over the next day or two. Please contact Jeremy at the Conservancy office for more information or to report any concerns about the ponds or open space areas. "
  20. That's actually not my boat. That's a rental that me and a few buddies used in upstate NY way up by the Canadian border near Alexandria bay. We camped out from Wednesday night until Sunday fishing all day long. Actually I think it was more about the beer drinking than the fishing, but I say that the two mix very well. I was catching fish like those in the picture on Senkos in the weeds. Caught a couple rock bass too. Northern pike were biting on spinnerbaits more aggressively than bass so I stuck mainly to the soft baits. I let my buddy use my brand new strike king buzzbait. Something attacked it on his first cast but didn't catch the hook. I probably should have put a trailer hook on, but a few casts later a 2 foot bowfin destroyed it. That thing was just plain nasty. I didn't think they lived that far north as I've never seen one growing up. It was a fun trip... Now if I could just have that luck down here!
  21. I decided to change up my username to hang with the hip crowd... Just back from vacation (had some good LMB luck in NY opening weekend) and saw many name changes... figured I would too. Paul (formerly pkschul)
  22. Well I guess nobody has heard of this place? I went for a long bass season opening weekend and killed them all day long on senkos in thick weeds. Spinnerbaits also pulled them in along with a few pike. None were huge, but most were keepers at 16-18 inches. My buddy landed a huge bowfin which destroyed the brand new buzzbait that I lent him. We had no idea what it was until somebody told us later... scary looking fish for sure.
  23. Isn't part of maintaining a happy fishery culling some of the fish? I think the population numbers are high enough where this shouldn't be an issue. A lot of people fish to eat. Not my thing but whos to say they can't do it?
