  1. I bought a few Bandit 200's in search of Crappie last year and tried some 100's for Bass. I prefer the louder rattle of the Mann's but the color selection from Bandit is the creme. One question, the Footloose color selection on the website looks to be all 100 or 200 series lures looking at the bill. Do all Footloose have the short bill?
  2. I am on a small, 55 ac private lake and the bass fishing just died in July/August last year. I fished mostly topwater and I guess the fish moved out of the shallows which is 80% of the lake. This year I plan to find the fish using jigs or plastics, my least favorite type of fishing because the pace is so slow. I've switched to braid and I really like the lack of stretch, sensitivity and strength and this might help my deep water fishing. So I would say jigs and plastics will be my focus this year.
  3. I think I have a Sammy 128 but need to look at it to be sure. I fished it a few times and thought that it was defective because it sat tail down. I just Google'd Sammy 128 and see that it works like the video on Luckycraft's website. If mine is the real deal, I really like the finish. Tuesday evening was overcast and the wind was 20+ mph as the front moved through. I managed to find one fish in two hours back in a cove. Wednesday morning was COLD but beautiful otherwise and it warmed up nicely but I didn't catch squat. It has been warm today so I am planning to fish a few hours after work. I am going to try the Spook and the other topwater first, if I start throwing a buzzbait I won't stop unless I grab a Baby 1-. Now that brings up another question. I am sure I can catch a few on stickbaits but are they the right choice pre-spawn when buzzbaits are killing them?
  4. I was looking for a bait larger than the Baby 1-Minus and saw a Spook at Gander Mountain. Pop-R's have worked really well for me so I decided to go for broke and bought a Super Spook in a bass pattern. Although I try to cast past my target that son-of-gun must be scaring the fish into the next county when it hits the water! But seriously, what type of retrieve do ya'll like? twitch twitch pause or walk it continuous? I never had a hit yesterday morning on anything including the SS, Baby 1 or Buzzbait and I didn't fish with it during the afternoon.
  5. I looked at the Deps but no way can I throw a 25.00 crankbait even with braid. They definitely look sweet, especially the natural bass color. I will look for the Waker at Gander Mountain. I have been doing really good the past few weeks on buzzbaits and the Baby 1 -Minus but the bigger fish seem to prefer the bigger bait, at least this past week.
  6. I have been having good luck with Mann's Baby 1-Minus but would like to throw something larger, maybe 3"-4" long. Do ya'll have any recommendations for bigger wake baits?
  7. When I was twelve I wound up hard to cast a Pico Perch into a howling south wind on Lake Amistad, I let 'er rip and saw my Papa's hat go flying out in front of me about 15 yards. I turned around and saw one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life...my Papa sitting in the back of the 14' Lonestar with every Brylcreem lathered gray hair pointing at the sky at a 45 degree angle.
  8. Fishizzle, I am not sure if you are directing your post to me but I think so. I have dropped one group of 3 crappie condos in 20' of water and will drop several more groups of 3 in the same area. The deep water is accessible from the bank but I am out of casting distance intentionally. The lake is long and skinny with the deep area in the middle, I will drop some bass structure and mats all over the lake whereas the crappie condos will just be in the deep area. It's a small community and it won't be long before the homeowners who fish figure out what I've done even though I am dropping the structure late at night without lights on my boat. All are marked with a GPS. Tpayneful, I wish this lake had some dropoffs! It has a silty-clay bottom that is basically flat from 2'-23'. I really can't complain about the lake though, I caught my biggest bass of my life last night that weighed 6.75 and was 23". Two nights ago I snagged 5 and 5.5 pounders that went back in the water. A 2.5 pounder went into the pan. I expect to be in this house for at least the next 6 years while my daughters finish high school and start college. I want to do my part by improving the fishery any way I can. I am on a tight budget but I may stock a few thousand Coppernose Bluegill this spring. SV
  9. I am new here but I've been reading for a little over a year. I live on a private 55 acre lake and I've been hustling to drop some crappie condo's made from the top 10 feet of bamboo, 5 gallon buckets and quickcrete. I would rather fish for bass but the crappie will be fun too. After looking at the leftover pile of bamboo shafts that are 10-15 feet long and up to 2" in diameter in my driveway I decided I will build some bass condos. I plan to build them using the same method as the crappie condos but using bigger boo. I think it will work and it certainly won't hurt, my lake has very few trees, mostly weedbeds around the perimeter. I am also building some mats using the bamboo and a single concrete block stood on its end, sort of like the spokes in a bike with the block in the center. My lake is shallow ranging from 2-23 feet but approximately 80% of it is less than 5'. I think the mats will help the bass population.
  10. Thanks for the welcome fella's. I could not figure out a better way to title the tread. I just started bass fishing seriously last year when I moved to a place on a 55 ac private lake. Previously I was too close to the Gulf of Mexico to be interested in bass. I caught some nice fish last year paddling around in my cousins jon boat and caught most of my bass on Pop-R's but didn't weight or measure them. I started buying tackle but it all fits in a normal size box right now (grin). I thought the tackle thread was cool and was planning to send the link to a buddy of mine if I could find it...he thinks I've gone overboard. It's finally picking up but still slow after each cold spell, tonight I caught my largest bass of my life and she was 23" and 6.75 lbs on a white Booya Buzzbait plus a 1.5 pounder on a Baby -minus 1. I can't imagine what a 10 pounder feels like!
  11. I may be mistaken but I thought there was thread here where members posted pics of their tackleboxes and there were a few closets that looked to better stocked than Gander Mountain...do ya'll recall this thread?
