  1. I don't fish with jigs much at all but the action was slow this morning on topwater; so I switched and side-armed a brown/red jig with a rootbeer colored chunk under a dock and felt a tap and the line went slack. I reeled like he!! and set the hook on a chunky 2.5 pounder. It is great feeling catching a bass on a new lure.
  2. .......pawn shops of course! I stopped by a shop at lunch and picked up a Ambassadeur 4600 for 15.00 out the door with very little rash. Stopped at two more shops and didn't find squat. Shop number four had a 4600C3 with almost no rash on a 7' Ugly Stik for 50.00 out the door. The 4600 will find home on the Ugly Stik and the 4600C3 will get new bearings and possibly a Castaway that will be rigged up for C-Rig and with a big piece of cut bait, I won't have to re-rig for channel cats.
  3. Oh man, someone "crowdaddy'd" outta that one! I admit, my first pair of premium shades were a pair of Oakley Blades back in the mid-80's...black bridge, one pink and one green earpiece and a yellow bridge. No way in HE!! I'd where something so cute in my 40's. White shades don't seem so girlie in comparison!
  4. Boston Craiglist: You could build a small rack on top of this trailer and put your boat on upside down like your van and put your other items in the trailer or use it as is. http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/grd/620551513.html This may work as is. http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/boa/619479555.html
  5. Sang, Don't apologize for your English...if you fish you speak everyone's language around here! I found a hitch for your Honda online from several different sites. I will link one in this message. It's 139.00 plus shipping and I will assure you that it is easy to bolt up, 2-4 bolts on either side. Wiring the lights is too, you will need an adapter that plugs into the existing tail light wiring of your Honda, no cutting needed at all. I am sure you will enjoy hauling your boat to the lake or river much more and won't take the chance of damaging your Honda loading or unloading the boat. 6. If you send him to Wally World, the Pinnacle's cannot be fully serviced to the best of my knowledge. I would look at the Abu Max's before Shakespeare or Pinnacle. Also, Gander Mountain reels appear to be Pinnacle. I am only referring to the Pinnacle Solene, LP100 and similar with the mag adjustment directly in line with the spool shaft. Other models may be serviceable.
  7. I don't recall owning a pair of white shades but I'll tell you my color of choice for cars and trucks is white...spend a few summers down in Central Texas and you will quickly understand why. I kick myself every day for choosing a black Frontier after the special ordered white on dark gray arrived with serious damage.
  8. The fact that ya'll have had found the BG's are not great for live bait is odd, after reading several studies and guidelines that state that the best pond management for LMB is a good population of BG for forage.
  9. I am not trying to be argumentive but I think you are making far more work for yourself. What make and model Van?
  10. ^^^ that's FUNNY!
  11. What baits do you like in strong winds?
  12. Boat positioning... Lure selection... Wind drag on line... It's 18 gusting to 24 in my area per NOAA.
  13. A polished duck hunting boat would probably be counterproductive but I like the results of this guy's detail. If I can stop fishing long enough I may see how Mother's Aluminum polish works on my Lowe. Rest of Story: http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=273
  14. Is a trailer not an option? It does not have to be a boat trailer, I used my 6x12 utility trailer quite a few times. Around here small boat trailers run about 150.00.
  15. Great job! I have a Lowe 1457V and you gave me some good ideas. SV
  16. Wind is 25mph right now per NOAA but I managed to snag a few small ones between 7 and 8 tonight on the H' Toads in the creek end of our lake. I hooked or partially hooked and lost about three or four more. This is really cool and I think it's good practice for T & C-rig's which I am horrible with. I felt a couple of twitches on couple, a few hammered it and a couple just cause a little change in the surface of the water near the bait which sinks slowly as you know. Green Pumkin Pearl (looks brown to me) and Watermelon Red Pearl are the colors that seem to work on my lake. I have a feeling this is going to be a real productive summertime technique.
  17. Yep, I was pullin' your line...hope you get on the water soon. SV
  18. I don't know, those photos looked Photochopped....looks like the water is spraying up and then running down the back of the motor. And all that smoke, that's gotta be an old Chebbie puffing soot in front of the boat.
  19. I certainly don't pull hard because I don't want to make the line dig. I think it is most likely from not pulling enough line off the spool leaving a loop covered. I think I understand the backlash procedure above, next time I backlash (probably tonight :-?) I will try it.
  20. IMO I would not choose either one. And I was very tempted at buying a two-man plastic boat and opted for a jon boat. Cheaper, more room and more options for improvements. In my case, if my boat was solely to be used for my lake I would have gone with the two-man plastic. If money was not an issue (app. 3,500.00), it would be this: My neighbor has one and it's like walking on a floating dock.
  21. Most do pull out, but a few require a ***** or two and I am careful but not perfect and try not to pierce the line. I am pretty good but I still backlash.
  22. ...I lost two buzzbaits last night when a loop stopped the spool and snapped the line. This makes four times with Sufix and zero with PowerPro. These may have occurred after picking out a backlash but it would have been several casts prior and I normally strip of enough line to see that it's clear. I moved all the Hi-Vis yellow to one reel and have PP 20# on my Cruxis and PP 30# on my new Citica. I am not comparing the 30# PowerPro to the 20# because I just bought this line. I don't think multiple fish and bait loss and snapping off from shock load is a fluke. It might be alleviated by just going to 30# Sufix but I have no confidence in this line and that is a shame. It has several qualities I prefer over PowerPro :-[
  23. I have Lowe 1457V and currently it has no decking or carpet in it so it won't be a problem. But I have been reading all the threads on conversions here and on the net and believe I want to add some decking to make the boat more fun and convenient to fish from. We don't get rain in Central Texas like the Gulf Coast but we get enough that it will be saturated every few months. Do I need to plan on buying a cover if I install a carpeted deck?
  24. I have no doubt it's a great lure and even a 100G money maker. But was he pulling grass off the hooks every cast?
