  1. My wife caught this beauty today. Altamaha River Jesup, Ga. Stained water, medium to fast current and casting above and letting it float down. Caught with a 7'0 medium to light spinning reel, 12 lb test monofiliment, float with sinker and hook using a worm. What luck........... lol :'( Weighed approx 4 lbs. Length 18 inches from snout to fork....... Approx 6 pm just as the sun was starting to go down is when they were starting to bite.
  2. What are the conditions looking like at Clarks hill since the drought and water problem? We are suppose to have a cabin up their for a week in May. Looking forward to getting up their and catching somemore big ones. Havent been there since May last year.
  3. Here is what I use for now. Works great got a great deal on it. 1996 16 ft. LOWE, 1996 25 hp Johnson and gator trailer. Just added a 50 lb Minn Kota trolling motor to the front right. Tops out at 28 mph with my self and the bride. Greg
  4. I am a large frame person myself and own a 16ft alum boat that will handle 5 person limit 560.... So if I take a friend and the equipmet plus fuel I am loaded. I have thought of the option of the link below. Just some thoughts. Other thought is got with Carolina Skiff DLV semi V, more stable than an alum boat to move around in and drafts only 4-6 inches of water. The boat can be cut in half and still float...... these boats new 2008 are much cheaper than a 20,000 plus bass boat. For there features and abilities they are my choice for my type needs. I have had four spine surgeris and need the flat bottom to move around in and have the stability without falling over as does my aluminum boat. http://www.logoboats.com/MINI%20TOON%20PONTOON%20BOATS.htm
  5. Beings your looking for BASS and looks like a BANANNA........ BASSANNA
  6. Living on the coast along with the variety of rivers and lakes we have in this location, I see alot of flats boats being used for all the variety types of fishing. The prices are great on them too compared to the coast of a bass boat....... New Carolina Skiff DLV 19.8 run about 16,000 with a 90 hp on it compared to a new bass boat at 22 thousand. The new design of the semi V keeps you drier and rides alot better than the older version DLX flat bottom. Alot of additions or options for these boats are available and can pack alot of stuff on one of these boats..... With the higher gunnell walls deep water is no problem and you can literally cut this boat in half and it will not sink. Great for the whole family and feel really safe out on the waters.
  7. I just purchased one of the Walmart yellow case batteries last week with the 870 AMPS. For the amount of ampers the $75.00 was not bad. It has a one year replacement warranty when you purchase it. Suppose to be a good battery if charged properly.
  8. Most of the ones I have ever seen do come out....... if they have been there a while it may take some effort...of twisting back and forth... again they have a smaller diamater post that fits in the hole.....of the pedistal. Greg
  9. Hate to hear of your injuries, hope you mend well and fast. 90% of the seats will come up just by lifting on them. There is a post rod that goes down into the pedestal....... you should be able to move your seat to any of them that you wish with ease. Some may need just a touch of lubercation from time to time if they sit up on one location for long periods of time. Hope this helps you out. Greg
  10. Gentlemen, thanks for all your efforts to help me find the problem. After working all the leads from the tanks fuel line to the motor and bulb replacement..... I took the boat to the shop. The check valve in the bulb was bad after cutting it open and inspecting it but most of the time other problems will surface as well. The mechanic took the hood off the motor checked the fuel pump and it was fine as well. Futher tracing led to the carbuerator. The line from the fuel pump to the carb was jelly soft......... taking it off and cutting into it was fuel line break down of all the alcohol that are added to our cheap refined fuels that all of us buy these days..... Well to say the least the inside of the carburator looked like a gummed jello. :'( So the carb will be rebuilt and the fuel lines from the motor fuel line connector, fuel pump and carb will be replaced. He did mention that seafoam on certain hoses will cause this break down as well over time........ nothing better to do than run that motor and dont let them sit up long. If they do at least crank them and run them every couple of weeks to keep them circulated well with fresh fuel. Hope to have it back in a few days and hit the waters. At least there is a huge Boat Show in Savannah, Ga. this weekend at the International Trade and Convention CenterI can go to instead of fishing.... ;D. May the waves be with yall. Thanks again.
  11. That is what I am thinking.... thought about taking a hose and going into the fuel tank directly to the fuel pump. If it picks it up and runs fine then..... that should tell me it is the connectors or a restricted fuel line. Even tho I am getting fuel out at the connector prior to the motor on bulb squeeze it may not be adequate for the supply and demand. Your thoughts
  12. Thanks for reply Trailboss502. I have checked the fuel lines for kinks and they are fine. Took the two screws that hold the fuel pump onto the block and pulled it away then squeezed the bulb..... I had fuel come out of the center hole the goes to the carbs...... from what I am understanding it should not do that and if it did that would indicate a bad fuel pump and cause the vacumn pull. Your thoughts on this before I replace the fuel pump. Talking with this person they said that I had too many connectors prior to the fuel pump....... one at the fuel tank, the bulb itself, one at the motor where it connects... from there a hose runs from the connector to the fuel pump. The hoses appear to be in good shape and when the bulb is compressed I have good fuel flow thru those....however that does not take into account any vacumn being pulled from the fuel pump...just the sqeezing of the bulb once it was replaced....
  13. I just purchased a Minn Kota 50. Havent put it in the water yet. Will make a posting and let you know how it does on the GPS by itself on my 16 ft. Lowe Alum Boat. Should be able to do it tommorow afternoon.
  14. I would have the linkage checked. IF the linkage has come loose or disconnected somehow leaving the gears in neutral just that will happen... nothing...... that will be the case..... no forward or reverse. I would also check the shifting adjustment that may be out of sync...... At the price of a new motor today, I would surley try and keep what I had going for as long as I could. I priced a 40 hp Etec the other day and was nearly 5000.00 dollars. I still love my Johnson 25 hp.... ;D Good luck.....
  15. Took a 14 mile trip down our local river the other day....... The motor started choking and spitting then cut off. After doing some back tracking fuel tanks, venting, lines etc. I found the primer bulb to be collapsed like a pancake. Disconnected from the main tank and depressed the small inner ball at the connector and air rushed in and filled the bulb back out... Hooked it back up to the tank primed the bulb. It got tight as it should, started the motor and headed back to the landing... :-[ . On the way back it collapsed again..... disconnected from main tank and hooked to my 3 gallon spare tank. Ran fine all the way back to the landing. ( Thank goodness for spares) : . I have replaced the bulb on the inline fuel line and it run fine on both tanks however not under load but all seems to be well. My question is ......... what would cause the bulb to collapse on one tank and not the other? Both tanks are brand new from BPS, they are vented well and were open, fuel lines are fine.
  16. So instead of using a 6ft. rod I need to go to a 7ft and would help loading it to cast farther...... I acknowlege the cheapness of the baitcaster reel and will make that change once I am proficient in the casting well enough to spend that amount of money on a reel. ;D
  17. I am a beginner as well. What I did is purchased a cheap 25 dollar baitcaster to first learn how to use it.... from setup to casting using side arm and flipping / pitching. I did find that the line that came with it is not worth fishing with. I have learned well how to cast in all positions without bird nesting or backlash. Once I get real comfortable I will then upgrade to a more expensive and better set up. The line that came with the reel was very cheap and not worth using. > I changed it out to Trilene xl 14 lb line but it appears to be large in diamater. It seems to cast ok but dont get the distance I would like with it. I have some Berkley Game Fishing line 15 lb light green that is no where near the diameter. Would ya'll find this to be better line. I also have some 20 lb cajun line that tough but small diameter. Any suggestions?
  18. While searching for information on Bass Fishing and Lures, I clicked on a link from another site. I have only been registered now for just a few hours. However let me say that I have yet to find a site that was so informative, intense and dedicated to the Angler. Just the past few hours has really encouraged me to learn more about bass fishing and wanting to dive in deeper. I have alot of time on my hands since medical retirement from back and neck surgery. Hard to find alot of things to do that can relax you and help with pain issues... Last year while on vacation, my cousin invited me to go with them fishing that evening. I had never been one to do serious fishing. I have always been and outdoors person camping, motorcycles etc. but not fishing. Well to make a long story short, that day I caught a 20 pound and 16 pound catfish with in and hour and a half. I have been HOOKED ON FISHING sense. My wife and I have purchase a 16 foot Alum boat with 25 hp Johnson, Trolley motor, rods reels, tackle and I dont know what all. We try our best to wet a hook every chance we get.... I do wish to thank all those that put so much time in to newbies like me and teaching them with the vast amount of experience you have learned and now sharing. I wished that I had not wasted so many years of my life by not getting in the waters earlier with this great hobby. ALTAMAHAJON
