1. No research ever established what the number or percentage of successful spawns for that spawning season to be successful. What I am saying, is most are not going to make it to adult hood anyway. How many successful spawns need to occur to be beneficial to the population, both in numbers and in size.
2. For heavier shaky head baits, I like a somewhat slower rod. Same for tube jigs as well. The XF action is very unforgiving when a fish goes ballistic, trying to shake the bait free. A longer, slower cation rod tames this. For the light stuff, I just use my 6-9 m/XF drop shot rod. Not 100% perfect, but it's very sensitive, yet limber enough to get the job done with baits 5/16 oz. and smaller.
3. I believe I located the color - Ghost Ayu. Sounds right?
4. I use Daiwa Sols on both my cranking rods. They are a little faster than what has been recommended at 5.8:1, but not too fast. I judge the proper speed by the amount of resistance in the bait. That's not to say that there is "one special speed" for each bait, but that there is one speed "for the fish" on that given spot/time/day. I tried my buddy's Zillion Crazy Cranker, and despite its amazingly long and smooth casting, I am just too used to what I've been using for cranking. Seemed like a lot more reeling than was necessary. I'm sure anyone could adjust to the super slow speed (4.9:1), though.
5. I like the bait to fall on a slack line, most times. That means free spool, and stripping line. I do not want too much slack, though. There are times, when fishing pockets that I do want the bait to pendulum through the whole, and for that, I just thumb the spool after the pitch.
6. Bend the hooks on the Spro frogs out about 1/16" and "exercise" the plastic for a few minutes to make it soft. On twin skirted frogs, trim one "leg" shorter than the other and use a Duo-Loc snap to connect the frog to make it easy to "walk the frog."
7. Think "icon." Kenny from S. Park.
8. I've heard of birds "removing" fish from ponds. Never adding them though, LOL.
9. Coke Addicts! (sorry Dan, couldn't help it.)
10. I dunno, I think you could write more on Capt. America. LOL, maybe. Though I did read the part about the PowerPoint presentation. Wonder Woman would be good for that, depending on the number of men in the audience...
11. Do your presentation on Superman. Winner. A+ easy
12. Thanks gents. I stuck two more in the 30 minutes or so after lunch today. Same thing, in fact, i had a hard time getting the hooks out of one. I had to go through the gill, and sacrifice my pinky to get the hook out. All in the name of C&R, LOL. All i got was a tiny poke from the barb, though no big deal.
13. Oh yeah, keeps the junk off the line and bait.
14. Not sure you can "go back and forth" on this one. From their website: http://www.gloomis.com/publish/content/gloomis/en/g__loomis_homepage/customerservice/warrantyinformation/g_loomis_limited_lifetime.html Either way, I hope you are able to get it replaced.
15. Not really, my old Abu XLT Plus Series have only 1 bearing and they 've been with me for more than 2 decades. Needless to say that the only bearing they 've got must be really good cuz it 's still there doing the job. Yeah really. I've had older Daiwas with NO BEARINGS that are still in perfect working order. This is due to using brass bushings. Many lesser reels have PLASTIC bushings which wear out, causing parts to misalign and eventually also wear out. A bearing in its place would have prolonged the reel's life. its the main reason most crankshafts have a bearing underneath the dog ear gear and main gear/drag stack. Even the cheapo reels have one. your Abus and my old Daiwas are the exception to conventional wisdom, in that they were engineered to perform for years. Some manufacturers design reels with insanely high bearing counts for marketing purposes.
16. J Francho replied to T-rig's topic in Fishing Reports
Nice job! Congrats.
17. Why the console though? I'd sauy ditch that for the space, and make it a stick steer.
18. When you click on the quote button in the thread (instead of the reply button) you'll get a quote author=XXXXXXX link=###### date=##### (where those X's is a string of letters and numbers which must represent a specific user). This displays the author and provides a link to the quoted post. I don't know if you can type a name there. The attempt is below.
Will this work?
And no it doesn't work. Correct, tryius. The forum software references the primary key value in the database for username. Once you have it though, you can quote away! That is true.... back to pond action. RW: please visit that "secret pond" and report back! All may not be lost.
19. Paul, I think for the majority, you are right. But I still think there are others, with bigger catches that aren't reporting on the internet. To us, its a ubiquitous part of our social lives, to others, its something completely unknown. I also do think there are a select few that keep their cards close to their vest. They may be onto something, e.g. a new state record, that needs to be kept quiet. Who knows. Kent, awesome post! 10's in your ponds? For real? Where's my invitation, LOL! I do see your point about "professionally stocked, though, and "abundant forage." Sounds like a BLAST.
20. Or durability, don't you think?Anyway, most "10 bearing" reels are just the standard 6 bearing reel with four bearings in the knobs. Its nice to have, but adds weight.
21. LOL, me neither - I use paper weights, less fatigue on your wrists. ;D
22. Another. Full story is in the outings forum.
23. Crest, you did, but you must have typed it in the middle - I've done it LOTS of times here, LOL. When you quote a post, the reply box doesn't automatically scroll to the bottom. You type, think you are at the bottom, but its really in the middle. Anyway, great replies here that I'm also going to look at.
24. Thanks guys! T-Rig: Duo Slaver Crank SR55. Wish I knew the color name, because I need to find a few more of these. In tannin stained water, it transforms into nice warm bronze with red highlights and a touch of blue. It has a tight wiggle with wickedly good deflections, despite that tiny bill. Paul, I think you know where this is, and when the wind creates current, you get a miniature creek channel environment. Trout guys will understand the term tailout here. Yes, that shed is my tackle box. Troutfisher, keep reading, and keep applying what you learn to it - you'll have a 20"er eventually. FF15, Mitch's boat is an ongoing drama about keeping his showroom condition '87 Ranger "all original." He needs to give up the goose, and repower, LOL. He actually came in second + lunker bonus last year on Cayuga, with TM power only, LOL.
