  1. No joke - some get huge! The NY record is 9-4! Compare that to the NY record SMB, LOL.
  2. Shad are in the herring family. Its a generic term, but for a specific type of fish. Alewife, Gizzard, Hickory, American shad, and Blueback herring abound in the Northeast.
  3. Oh my! There's that "food source" thing again.
  4. Westchester is just north of NYC. Many of the cities drinking water reservoir systems are there. Silly good fishing in them!
  5. Its invaluable, if you have multiple cards. Plus, you do not ever have to worry about whether you have enough gas in the camera's battery when you get home from a trip to transfer the images. If your camera dies in the middle of the transfer, you run a very good risk of losing the images. They usually can be recovered, though, using a cardreader and something like PC Inspector Recovery. Its also WAYYY faster than using the cam. As far as deleting from the camera - just format the camera after dumping the image files - its much faster, and you'll get better write times from your cam.
  6. I'm talking about the Kansas state record. Here is a link to the application. It seems like a tall order to keep a fish alive for that length of time for all the proper certifications to happen: http://www.kdwp.state.ks.us/news/content/download/16395/110860/file/Official%20KS%20Fish%20Record%20App.pdf Add to that, the kid is holding the fish up in his front yard, and I think I can infer the rest of the story. Not for nothing, if I caught a state record, its probably going in the cooler.
  7. You are competing against your own state records, smallies and largies should have separate records:
  8. The issue is compounded by low water levels. You can't drop your trailer in far enough to simply glide on because of the blowout hole. So, you have to powerload, which makes a blowout hole, and on, and on...
  9. What good is its jaw, if the fish is dead, LOL? I'll play for NY.
  10. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/519332-REG/SanDisk_SDDR_121R_MobileMate_Micro_Memory_Card.html
  11. It is. To top it off, it comes in a bottle with a tip that dispenses just the right amount for most bearings.
  12. For years, I used Trilene XL. Worked great. Then I tried Sufix Elite and it was a little better. I now use CXX for all my "mono" type applications for bass. For winter steelheading, I use Sufix Siege, in Neon Tangerine, and once treated with KVD, 8# line worked very well fishing float rigs and bottom bouncing. Many, many 10 lb.+ were landed on this line, including a 22 lb. brown in the fall.
  13. I had two rods break on the cast, the second being a replacement for the first. They were 6' M/F casting rods, and broke throwing a 1/2 oz. spinnerbait. They were defective. Third time around was a charm - still have the rod to this day. I've snapped tips doing stupid things, and even broke a guide. Other than that, its all good.
  14. Zoom Trick Worms = sink slowly.
  15. Snap swivels were never meant to attach you bait - they are for attaching weight to your line, before the leader. I use Duo-Locs for cranks.
  16. We've had similar temps here. From shore and boat, I've had excellent results with big ripbaits, like Pointer 100, Flash Minnow 110, X-Rap XR-10, and shallow crankbaits. If you're shore bound, don't be afraid to chuck a bait out there. Make your casts parallel to the shore, casting to water you haven't trampled by. Most of the larger, active fish we've caught have been shallow, very shallow. Deep water cranking has only resulted in dinks. Here are two recent reports that might give you an idea of what to do: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1238721369/ http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1238973903/0#0
  17. OK, now that that disaster is averted, Get a cardreader!!!
  18. While you were in the Army, you met a chesty woman selling heroine and ended up in a Dairy Queen covered in peanut butter?
  19. Paul, no not I, the 9-5 came from Westchester County. Sorry if I wasn't clear. My PB NY fish was from I, a 7-2.
  20. John, why? What if one wants to keep some images on the card? On each camera I've formatted the card only once at the start. What am I at risk for? You are at risk of performance issues, file corruption, and other issues. I understand many like to keep a few images on their cards, and they can be rewritten to the card after formatting. Most cameras show as a writable drive in Explorer (My Computer), and the images you want can be dragged and dropped there.
  21. You should be able to format the card in the camera. This will completely rebuilt the FAT structure from new. Do this EVERY time you dump the images to your computer.
  22. An accurate scale has to rank as the worst investment I have ever made. That ended a great run of catching monster bass, LOL. But seriously, I don't know where the 8's are. I know at least one was caught in Conesus (or something close to 8) during a tournament. Perhaps the trophy hunters aren't reporting everything they've caught. You'll know when I get my 8. Seriously, its happening this year. My PB NY fish is 7-2, from "I" of all places, and looking to bust that by at least 14 oz. I'm trying to find the largest fish reported over there - its a 9-5, if memory serves me correctly.
  23. Hands down, the finest aluminum boat I've ever fished off was a 19' Xpress w/ 225 ProMax. Cut through 3' Lake O. chop like a much bigger boat.
  24. I like to let that guy carry on, and dig a deeper hole. Its entertaining to me. When he asks how I did, I'll say something equally ridiculous, like, "I caught three dinks."
