Musky Fishing
A close friend of mine was up in Northern Wisconsin last weekend. They had a fantastic weekend. Boated 3 fish over 40 inches!.They had numerous other blow ups on their top water baits. The go to bait for them was a Top water lure called "Poes Giant Jackpot" It floats which makes it very easy for novices to use.I'll be going up in a few weeks myself self and I'll be throwing that 100% of the time.

Walleye advice
I'd try trolling crawler harnesses with inline planer boards. They're a deadly summer technique.Caught these a couple weeks ago doing just that.

Summer (deep water) Smallie Tactics
Try drop shotting various plastics.3" Yumm Dingers work well along with Gulp minnows. We wacky rig the Dingers.Don't waste your time or money with the over priced "special" drop shot weights.A simple bell sinker works great.I also don't tie the bell sinker on with a polymar knot.Tie it on so it will break off if you get it snagged, there by saving you your hook and bait.I've messed around with a pegged sinker for that reason.Still prefer a good ole heavy bell sinker.

Smallmouth in the Great Lakes
The pic in my avatar is a lake Michigan fish. There are numerous bays on the lake side of the Door peninsula that hold many fish over 5 pounds.A jewel of a spot is Washington Island located off the northern tip of Door County's peninsula. We're talking fish over 6 pounds. The season does'nt open until July up there.

Need help finding bigger smallies on my home lake
Pre spawn is your best chance at the larger fish.Up here we fish the first break leading to their spawning areas with jerk baits and tubes. Jerk baits being king in cold water.

Rod build #3 "Splash of color"
Here's my latest.Jazzed her up with a little color. The blue guides along with silver metalic accents with Royal Blue main wraps should be a real looker. In fact thats what I'm gonna call it."Reel Looker" ;D I eliminated the cork around the reel seat to see how much of difference there is in detecting the bite.

Exploring the Split Grip Advantages further?
As a rookie builder my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt. I think it's mostly hype. Custom builders can do some very cool thread work in that area along with epoxy ramps. Not to mention the savings for the builder as the cost of cork has sky rocketed. The cost concerns are probably more of a factor for the big companies.Custom builders in my opinion are under paid for the product they build and seriously doubt they build split grips to save money. As far as the sensitivity thing goes?Maybe it's an asset in the fore grip area.Who needs all that cork up there? If you really want to increase sensitivity in a rod look to decrease weight in the guides. If someone could invent a guide made of a material as lite as graphite yet as strong as traditional guides they'd be very very rich.I love the looks of split grips and so does every single person I've shown my rods too.

1st Marbling attempt
Decided to spruce up my first rod build.Added some Epoxy ramps on the end of my grips and then marblized them. Here's the rod for those that don't remember it without the additions,And then the add on's.
