  1. This is a bit fuzy but it is a picture of the eye of my jig head that I pulled out of a snag yesterday. It is a palomar knot. I just learned how to tie these this winter, I think that is what I will use from now on !! The jig may have been defective :-/ The line is the cheapest I get at Wal-mart 6 lb. mono
  2. The In-Laws won't fish with you???
  3. I need it because I am still learning how to use a baitcast reel. I set mine on 10 when I am learning to use different line etc. When it is cold, I turn it down as the lube in the reel gets cold. Thumbs the rule ;D ;D
  4. Same *** to you guys in Florida !! And you in the northern parts who can ice fish. this winter here has kept the ponds and lakes froze most of the time and the only place I can fish (local) is a small lake north side of Marshall MO with enough geese to keep it open, but it is a mess with the feathers and all but it is fishing ;D
  5. I'm with y'all !! Just *** the ones who can go to Texas !! Stuck here in Mid MO
  6. There is a warm water arm on the lake (Thomas Hill) on the south east side near the power plant, I went there a month or so ago and the parking lot had thirty boat trailers and folks fishing for crappie off the bank so you can get a boat in all year round. Most of the small lakes and ponds are froze, slushy or froze with a few open spots as of today, the next few days if the weather gradualy warms all even Mark Twain should be thawed. I live aproximately 1.5 hrs. from Thomas and 2 from Mark. Worse case, if you drag the boat down, and try Mark Twain, then you will have the warm water at Thomas Hill about an hour away.
  7. Thanks all. You helped answer my question ... "Reading this thread raised my curiosity on what "Carrot Stix" are, so I see the design in purchased rods, but don't understand what it does. I've seen similar rods with double grips on large snaging and catfish rods, but why the little knob on the end?? They do look cool though " From another post that had more to do with the craft of modifying a rod than the reason one would use a split grip.

  9. What is the purpose/advantage to splitting the grip?
  10. I also have a small budget for new gear. I bought a Pinnacle Platinum plus LP100C to see how I liked a baitcast reel it is low profile for $39 at wal-mart. I don't expect it to last forever or anything, but I like it alot. I look forward to getting a better one some day (after reading the mounds of info. on this forum). If you are new to baitcasting, read up on the tips from these great folks and spend a few days out in the yard with it (I couldn't imagine how you deal with a good backlash in a boat) and even if your not in a boat, it is a real bumber fixing them trying to fish. Rods? I haven't worried too much about mine (6.5 foot med/heavy) I bought for $7.00 but I will try some others when I have the $$$(after reading the mounds of info. on this forum). Your circumstances with decide all of these
  11. I fish for dogs when I practice, I tie dog treats on and aim under my propane tank the dogs have fun.. Does that make me a Redneck ??
  12. If the lake I fish on in this weather wasn't froze (usually the geese keep it moving) I would have been fishing not practicing. I have got some "that guy is nutts" looks as cars drive by. Other wise I do try to fish Thomas Hill Res. where the water is warm but temp. can freeze line and have an effect on the working of my reel. Skull is not numb!! I wear a hat and a hood ;D
  13. Thank you. I got this reel to learn how to use a bait cast reel so I didn't spend alot on it, I will try to lube it when I upgrade (or get another of the same) untill then I will stick to spinning reels when fishing, I was practicing in the yard during a sleet storm.
  14. I have Pinnacle platinum pluss LP100C reel that works very well for me but when I am in very cold (15 deg.) weather the anti reverse will not work properly, if I turn back on the handle it will catch after one or two turns or not at all untill I reel in and press the button and re-engage the handle. I had another reel that did the same thing and took it back, but the new one does it too. It works fine when I get it back inside. Is this because it is a cheap reel, or is it common for a bait cast reel and its construction????
  15. I talked to my brother and he said he goes through Nemo on route NN and fished near that boat ramp. And ditto the last post as far as the fishing conditions. Sorry not much help, good Luck !!

Supper Pork? Is it similar to and cheaper than Uncle Josh? Haven't seen it anywhere.
  17. I have been there 2 times since the first of the year, most of the lakes and ponds are frozen now, I fish from the bank, but my brother is getting his boat going. Has anyone had any luck catching bass (largemouth or striped) from shore? Fishing is limited to the "warm water arm" most of the time. I can catch crappie but I want a bass :'(
  18. I have not fished there yet, but my brothers have. He nearly caught a large Muskie but lost it at the side of the boat because the net was too small. I will talk to him and see if I can give you any info. I plan on fishing there soon (early spring) to see if we can catch some nicebass.

Thanks, that sounds pretty easy, how long will these last in the salt water? I would like to make a good number of them but I don't want them to go bad.

I thought I would go to the local meat market for the hog. I was also looking for some sort of pork skin that is already canned in brine or pickled. But I need to know how to make it myself if I can't find something in a jar at the store.
  21. Hello, this is my first post to this wonderfull forum ! I was wanting to learn how to make my own pork bait from scratch because they are very expensive (for my budget). I searched but found no posts about this. Is there any of you who do this? I did a web search but only found Human food recipies. Thanks
