  1. There's an old guy living about 6 doors down from me who tows a 12' jon boat with an older 4-door Buick. ;D
  2. X 2.. Buying a Shimano doesn't guarantee you'll get a quality reel. Out of over 4 dozen reels I've purchased in the past few years, the ONLY one that was defective right out of the box was a Citica 200e.
  3. The difference is, the 1911 was designed to be carried cocked and locked. I carried a 1911 for several years and am quite comfortable with "condition 1" carry. It's definitely not recommended for everybody though, and not for bouncing around in the woods cutting firewood. I had a Kel-Tec P11 that was DAO, held 10 or 12 rounds of 9mm, fit nicely in a pocket, and was only $200 (at that time, anyway). Wasn't pretty, but it could be carried with a round chambered, and went bang every time.
  4. If I were in your shoes, pmm, I'd get rid of the unreliable Ruger. Take the money you get from that, add it to the $150 you allotted for your new gun, and buy a quality revolver in .357 Mag. Enough power to handle predators of the two or four-legged variety, reliable, relatively jam-proof, and there's always at least one in every dealer's used gun case. BTW, isn't that HiPoint a single-action blowback design? If so, you have to either leave the chamber empty with a loaded mag in place, or carry it with a round chambered and cocked, with the safety on (bad idea). Not the best recipe for a defensive carry weapon, imho.
  5. H.R. 218 allows for nation-wide concealed carry for law enforcement officers. http://www.leaa.org/218/index.html
  6. In general, the HiPoints get fairly decent reviews from the people who own them. I would strongly urge you to reconsider your choice of caliber, though. Since concealment isn't an issue, why would you settle for a "borderline" caliber like .380? Even with the best loads available, it still falls far short of the 9mm in all categories. If you're serious about carrying a firearm for protection, carry a serious caliber.
  7. I've been eyeballing that one. I take it you like it? It's a smooth, reliable reel that's been around for quite a while now. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewdaiwaprocaster.html FWIW, it's also known as the Procaster 6+1. A quick Google search will turn up a ton of info.
  8. I was wondering the same thing. :-/
  9. I guess if you make a gazillion baits a year, a few defects get through. I've used thousands of zoom baits over the years, and I don't think I've ever had one that wasn't made properly. I am willing to bet the cost of those baits, that Zoom makes it good. No word from Zoom, and at this point I'm not expecting to hear anything. > Every company will have an occasional problem and/or defective product. What's important is how they handle the problem. One or two I can see, but the deformed baits outnumber the decent ones in this pack. I highly doubt the fish will care, but I do. I don't mind buying "blems" as long as they're labeled as such. I'll probably use these worms as it's really not worth the time to return them to BPS and Zoom is apparently not interested in doing anything about it, but it will definitely steer me away from Zoom plastics in the future.
  10. My casts are typically like the cracking of a whip, so I prefer centrifugal. Dual braking is nice on windy days, though.
  11. I'm sorry man :\ thats rough. Now you make my problem sound retarded Yeah, kinda puts everything into perspective, doesn't it. :-/ Blue Streak, sorry for your loss.
  12. The Bait Monkey says "Bring it!"
  13. Simple solution...start every post with the words " In my opinion..." ;D
  14. Not even close. I've owned and fished with those 60 Million Modulus BPS rods (Extreme), and IMO they're not even comparable to the cheapest St. Croix rods in sensitivity or weight. They're not bad rods, but definitely not in the same league as any St. Croix offering.
  15. I sent them a message through their website right before I made my post here. The funny thing about the deformity is that it's so consistant. The first few I removed from the bag were so similar that I almost thought the depression was a hook slot. ;D

I hit BPS yesterday afternoon to use up my rewards points and noticed the Zoom plastics were 25% off, so I grabbed a bag of Speed Worms. Well, while tidying up my little shop this evening I picked up the bag of Speed Worms and figured I'd take one out and look at it. This is what I found... A total of 8 out of the 15 in the package look like this. > So far, I'm not impressed. Heck, Brent's "Dents & Dings" look better than that, and they're only $1.39 >
  17. This. It's a fairly common problem with some reel seats. I've gotten to the point where I do it to every spinning rod I set up. Better safe than sorry.
  18. There are so many variables that it's difficult to make a suggestion without a little more info. Are you fishing from shore or a boat? What weights are you planning on throwing? Open water or around docks and/or submerged timber? My setup consists of an older 6'10" MH/MF Quantum Tour Edition PT KVD signature series rod (the one with the full cork grip, not that foam stuff.) I think it's the PTC6106FKV. On this rod I have a Curado 200e7, spooled with either 17# XPS fluoro or 12# Sufix Elite mono. Sensitivity is not an issue so mono/fluoro isn't really an issue. I just use whatever I find first when I grab my box of line out from under the bench. The only thing I'd change about the setup is the Curado. I was going to replace it with a Patriarch XT, but it's apparently not available in a 7:1 ratio. I prefer a reel with a higher ratio and IPT for burning spinnerbaits.
  19. If you don't mind buying online, you can pick up the President XT for $64 shipped. I just got one in yesterday to replace the Mitchell 308Xe that I've had on my "trunk rod" for a while now. To the OP, if you're interested in a deal on a lightly used Mitchell 308Xe send me a PM.

He shouldn't have to do that with a 4000 gal./mo. leak, but that's still good advice.
  21. Stasher1 replied to grimlin's topic in Everything Else
As a general rule, if the leak is between the meter and the house, it's your responsibility. If the meter is leaking or the leak is between the meter and the road, it's their responsibility.
  22. Stasher1 replied to grimlin's topic in Everything Else
Turn off all water in the house, go outside and pop the cover off your water meter and check the leak indicator on the meter. If it's moving at all, you have a leak...most likely between the meter and the house. http://www.mesaaz.gov/water/water/leak_detection.aspx
  23. That reel was one of my first "decent" baitcasters. I owned the Procaster 100H (AKA Procaster 6+1), the Capricorn 100XTC (Dick's version, basically the 100H with a ported spool), Capricorn 100H, and the Procaster Rojo (like the 100XTC, with the addition of a flipping switch). They were all decent casters, retrieved smoothly, palmed well, and were well worth their asking price...which was substantially higher then TW's current price. At $35 it's a no-brainer.
