Anyone ever heard of Cabela XML brand rods?
I'm a die hard bass guy. I want to replace my 3 Berkley Lightening rod with something better. Some options under $100 are: Berkley Shock series, Rick Clunn Bass Pro series, and Team All Star. I also ran across this one on clearance at Cabela's, (Reg. $139 on clearance for $29, model C66WJ). http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp;jsessionid=Z3IBFWX5FVM2JLAQBBJSCNVMCAEFIIWE?id=0053033122637a&navCount=0&podId=0053033&parentId=cat21428&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=cat21406_feat&catalogCode=9IS&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat21428&hasJS=true&_requestid=66322 I need 2 MH (worm rods) and 1 M (crankbait) rod. Your help is appreciated!

Fluorocarbon line for weightless baits?
I recently spooled up one of my Shimano Curados with 14lb. BP Fluorocarbon. My intentions were to use this line for crankbaits and spinnerbaits. My question is whether or not this line will perform well with weightless flukes and other baits, like senkos? My other Shimanos all have braid on them, and sometimes, the fluke doesn't sink very well. It stays about 1' or less. I'd like it to average about 3'. Thanks.

Fishing trips, gas, and you
There's 2 or 3 good places to fish within 35 miles, which isn't too bad. What I'm concerned about is I have 2 sons (ages 8 and 11). I want to take them tubing and swimming. The nearest lake for such activities would be about 125 miles (round trip) + gas for the boat to pull the tube up and down the lake. It's just REDICULOUS when it costs $100 for gas, just to take your kids to the lake to ride a tube.

Newbie here - Where do I buy lure molds and supplies?
Yeow! $160 for a Senko mold? That's a little steep. Certainly, I would want the 10 cavity (who wants to just pour 2 worms?). Gosh, $160 is a bit much. Anyone know of other options for molds that are "just as good"? Also, how many 5" senkos will a gallon of plastic make? Thanks! http://www.del-mart.com/shop/product.php?productid=16852&cat=306&page=1

Newbie here - Where do I buy lure molds and supplies?
I own a candle shop and have lots of candle molds. Well, it just hit me, I can buy lure molds and pour those as well! I know everything about candlemaking, but nothing about lure making. Please help. I want to pour my own Senkos, Creature baits, and maybe Brush Hogs. I want to use the best ingredients for good, soft baits. I may even bag'em up and sell them, just like my candles. Where do I start? Who sells molds, plastic, dyes, glitter, etc? Thanks!!!

What frog has the highest hookup ratio?
Scum frog. Simply awesome. And I see many people here agree with that answer. If you don't fish a Scum frog, you're missin' out.

Crawfish - when to NOT use them?
That does make me feel better. No cold water here. Water temp was 73 and I saw fish moving, and turning all over the lake. Could have been carp, buffalo, etc. Just ticks you off, to work all day 8 to 5, anticipating your afternoon fishing trip, then run to the lake for 2 hours, and not get a bite. But like you said, everyone gets skunked sometimes.

Crawfish - when to NOT use them?
I appreciate everyone's answers here. Like someone mentioned "we try to out-think a bass so much, we end up out-thinking ourselves!" But, if I back off of trying to out think them, and tell myself "they are only creatures, they only know to react, they can't actually think about things.... well, that means, they (are dumb) and should bite my lure right now! But that isn't happening either. So I start "out thinking" myself again. Like yesterday, I fished for 2 hours after work (5:30-dark). We've had a lot of rain lately in MS. So the water had risen about a foot or so and was bad muddy. For the most part, I pitched a triple rattleback jig with a rage tail craw, about 80% of the afternoon. Lost of sound and vibration. Not one bite. I also tried a chatterbait, nothing. What gives in this kind of situation?

Crawfish - when to NOT use them?
I love my 7' flippin' rod and using a jig with craw trailer. I also enjoy a t-rig craw. Is there a season where these two baits should not be used? Or is craw baits good for year-round? (I logged on again and added this question:) The deepest water that I fish is about 10'. Do crawfish naturally go 10'? You know we talk about "always do what is natural". Well, I'm not sure if bass feed on crawfish in 10' of water.

Need some help with jig trailers
Wow! I got a lot of feedback and I greatly appreciate each and every one of you for taking the time to help me. After much thought, I decided on the Rage Tail, Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Craw, and Berkley Chigger Craw. I think that's plenty for now. Gosh, it doesn't take long to spend a lot of money, just on a few packs of plastic! Thanks again to each of you.

Brush Hog or Baby Brush Hog?
- Need some help with jig trailers
"....just bite off a piece...." LOL I was thinking the same thing! Thanks to you both for your input!- Need some help with jig trailers
The nearest Bass Pro Shops is 100 miles away. A buddy of mine is going there tomorrow (April 5th) and I need to place my order with him. What does BPS carry in a twin tail trailer that you recommend? I didn't see the 4" Yamamoto Grub. Thanks for your help here.- Need some help with jig trailers
I fish a lot of murky/heavily stained water in Mississippi. I use lunker lure's triple rattleback jigs (to help the fish find the bait). I have been using zoom super chunk trailers, but they don't really have any action to them. I'd like to try some twin tail (curly tail) trailers. Can someone suggest a brand/model of these? Also, usually fish a black-red jig and would like to find some twin tail trailers that match it. Thanks!!!- Lures on Braided line?
For years, I've had braid on every one of my Curados. But last year, I noticed that while throwing spinner baits and cranks, it feels like my teeth are about to rattle out of my head! That line sends all those vibrations back up to your hand. I want the FISH to feel them, not me. Gosh! It'll drive you nuts. So, a few weeks ago, I make a run to BPS. I asked several employees in the fishing dept which line is best for spinnerbaits and cranks. They said mono. You actually need some 'give' to the line, a little memory is good with those type of baits. Flouro and braid have little or none. The day I was there, many people were dressed like "pro anglers" with sponsor shirts, etc. on. One of them stopped and asked if I needed some help and I told him my my dilema too....and again, he said "mono is what you need". And he put me onto some Shakespeare 17# mono for only $1.50 (330 yds). I have no complaints. I strapped on a chatterbait and caught a 3 pound largemouth the next day. Boy, could I feel a relief with that mono while reeling in a chatterbait! My more comfortable. For all topwater, jigs and worms, I'd go braid. For spinners and cranks, go mono.- Jig Help
I recently got into flippin and pitchin a jig and I LOVE IT! I use Lunker Lure's triple rattleback (seemed to be a very popular choice, so I went with it). I bought black-blue, black-red, black-chartreuse, and texas craw (green-brown-char mix). Almost all bodies of water that I fish are murky/stained/muddy, so I'm partial to dark colors. For trailers, I use zoom super chunks in matching colors with my jigs. Now, I have a question: What is your preferred method for presentation? I like to allow the bait to hit bottom, then I give the jig 2 short "snap-snaps" to make those rattles "talk". Then, it hits the bottom, and I give it 1 "snap" of the rod tip, to make that rattle "talk" again. Some friends of mine do a "soft lift" of the rod tip and all the bait to fall. Then another soft lift, and allow to fall, with only a few "snaps" every so often. I find this HARD to do from a patience standpoint. I like to "snap snap" my jig and make it dance. What do you guys do?- Megastrike - Cavitron - Evolution ????
Well, so far, looks like "money well spent" to own these 3 items! Now, where'd I put my credit card.- Megastrike - Cavitron - Evolution ????
That was GREAT feedback! Exactly what I am looking for! Any others?- Megastrike - Cavitron - Evolution ????
Do any of you use these products? Are they "as good as their websites claim to be"??? I'm one of those idiots that will buy each one of them, so please stop me! Well, just tell me the truth. Does the megastrike scent in a tube work? Is Cavitron buzz baits really productive? What makes an Evolution jig any better than my Lunker Lure Triple Rattleback? Thanks!!!!!!!- Crankbait Line
Come on. Be nice. Not everyone has piles of cash and are able to say "oh well" when you break off a $6 bait.- Crankbait Line
I see everyone using (mostly) 8 and 10# mono for crankbaits. I'm throwing 17# mono. Yes, I know it will restrict my baits from running as deep as it's label says, but, aren't you guys afraid of hang ups and breaking off a $6 bait with that 8 and 10# line? I can just hear it now: *snap* - then retie. Fish for 5 minutes, hang up.... and *snap*. Gosh, with 8 and 10# lines, you can't "pull" very much on it or else, SNAP. I only fish lakes that are 10' or less in max depths. Do I still need to back down from 17# mono for crankbaits?- The color red?
There's one good bass lake near my home (Greenwood, MS) and 90% of my productive days are from using black-red (red shad) colors. I've tried black-blue pig n jigs, white spinnerbaits, chrome crankbaits... dead results. But black-red pig 'n jigs, black-red brush hogs, etc. always land fish. Today, I went to another lake that I'm not very familiar with. Fished a black-blue pig 'n jig and a white chatterbait for about 3 hours. At the end of those 3 hours, I caught one 10" bass on the black-blue jig. I then spoke to a passer by who was fishing for crappie. He asked "What are you fishing for?" I said "bass". He said "I just caught 3, on a red-white jig. THrow something with red in it". So, I cut my jig off, and tied on a black-red jig with black trailer. Within 5 casts, I set the hook on a 2 pound bass. Coincidence? Maybe. Color? Maybe. Simply put, I love a black-red combo for all soft plastics. Question though: Have you guys had good luck with crankbaits or spinnerbaits in that color? - Need some help with jig trailers
